As technically impressive as this is. Its a gimmick that has no place in a windowing system. We traded low latency responsive UI for a transparent window gimmick, it was a terrible trade and the death of computing.

True. But no single event in the history of computing comes close to the travesty of WDDM, the removal of all GDI hardware acceleration functions. Like there was no reason they even needed to do that. They could have left them in.
