Isn't it pretty much completely dead now java just stole all its good ideas? Also it only gained traction for andjeet dev.

Well it sort of is dead for anything new. If you're working with Java you're probably working in some legacy oop hellscape of a codebase that was created by Indians on the cheap which is only working because one of the Indians called in the village priest to bestow the blessings of Vishnu upon it.

Hm? I used those at work just yesterday and looks like they were added in 8.
>>105994310
>functional
Oh, ok. I guess if it got more functional stuff, that would eat some of kotlin's lunch.

Never. Like C/C++ no one in their right mind is going to rewrite software that does the job. You would have to be Rust tranny level of insane to do that. It will always be around but it seems that a large chunk of people who work in Java are working with legacy code bases now days.

No real use case outside making android apps or Gradle (which sucks). Locked behind a Jetbrains license for practical purposes.

You use a language that doesn't control the primary platform it runs on. Java will adopt the few good ideas Kotlin has and will make changes to the underlying JVM without giving a single fuck how it effects Kotlin. Kotlin's coroutines are already fucked because they don't map well to Java's new virtual threads and Java's coming value types will cause even more significant issues.

It has historical bagagge because it was created during the OOP cult era. But isn't particularly bad. Verbose at worst.
