Because there's someone they can hold accountable and ball torture if something goes wrong. That's actually a fairly strong motivation to make sure your shit works.

It's really this.
Governments aren't really concerned with everything working, they're concerned with having people to blame when it does. Can't do that with anonymous opensores goobers, but you can do that with someone who took your credit card details.

It's not the nuclear system itself that was breached, it was the bureocratic guts of the agency responsible for designing and maintaining the cache.

It's about the intel, not the power to hit the red button

is M$, or anyone from M$, going to be beaten/sued/bigly fined/losing a single contract.

>he thinks "the government" is doing some Hollywood-style super secure shit, when the more realistic truth would be that they are still running a (possibly custom) version of Windows 98
lol

The government is entirely owned by corporations. If anything, someone at Microsoft is ball torturing someone at the Pentagon for letting the hack leak to the media. I wouldn't be surprised if they sue for harming shareholder value.

i always laugh at the prospect of people thinking the gubment is some wise, all-knowing entity that is above everything else. the best people don't even work for governments, they go into the private sector. all that's left is slop.

Companies group together to lobby for the government to do things. They don't have complete control and they can be destroyed. They are however more powerful than me and you will ever be

Closed source means the vendor gets paid, which means they can make political donations.

Most of those people are low iq third world Americans. I hear all the time how somebody hates Librewolf, uses Brave, then Brave sold their data to third parties, stole their money, they saw Brave sending all their traffic to Brave servers in Wireshark, Brave manipulated their referral links etc. and they keep using Brave. They think Brave is open source while it doesn't have reproducible binaries so it is 100% proprietary. They hate LGBT but use Brave that is Google monopoly Chromium that has official LGBT support. They use Windows 7 while Microsoft has official support for LGBT as well. Microsoft, Google, Brave etc. have +60% minorities doing dev work but anons circle jerk about this like they are against LGBT by being largest support group for LGBT.
