It didn't. Those are not reflections. They just placed clones of the same models below the floor, which was made transparent.

What is the problem of these not being exact proper scientifical approved reflections, if to the naked eye they look good enough, and why some modern games don't do the same thing for cheap performance reflections?

Because it's not cheap. Especially not with the increased polycounts of objects and texture resolutions.

Not screen space reflections either, like in PS2's Silent Hill 2, it's a copy of some of the environment, props and characters flipped upside down and put under a partially transparent floor. Unironically the best way to do reflections.

Games used to use textures with shadows painted onto them. And reflections made by mirroring just what was on screen or duplicating the environment. So they could get perfect looking environments but they were and not real and an imitation of what they technically could not achive.
Now were trying to do it all for real becausetech has gotten more advanced, but it takes time to make it look as good as a perfect imitation of the real thing when simulation perfect shadows and reflections is very technically expensive.

I remember some high school mirror optics. Other than the refraction at the thicness of the glass, which is barely any, I don't remember anything about FOV or scaling.

Doesn't picrel pretty much sum up a mirror and the cloned object implementation?

Curved mirrors cause distance distortion, different camera fovs as well
Only real life example i can think of is car parking mirrors, or using a fish eye lens
It's slightly differently from a doubled scene due to parallax and the lack of these distortions

It's a screen-space motion blur, could be frame-blending if it's just the current and previous frames or accumulation-based if it's blending more than one past frame (a lot of PS2 games blended like 4 frames).
It destroyed fillrate so you saw it a lot on PS2 games and also like fullscreen overlapping alpha textures because the PS2 GPU had crazy fillrate.
Dreamcast was on the other end where it got assfucked by these effects.

Many graphical effects unique to the GC architecture couldnโ€™t be ported to other consoles. And Capcom didnโ€™t really try to reproduce them by other means. The RE4 HD Project mod on Steam does attempt to reproduce the missing GC effects and does a fantastic job. Clear upgrade from the base version however itโ€™s not completely 1:1 to the GC version.
