Be honest...is computer science a meme degree now? Should I just give up on it and switch to something that'll make me a high paid wageslave instead of pursuing CS in hopes of doing game development someday? Are the jeets just too smart to be competed with?

YES and YES!
If you want income, go into a differnet field.
If you're only in it because you like programming, there is hardly any programming in a CS degree, so STILL go into a different field. (and program on your own).

I think programming will become a more niche field done by only those willing to study harder stuff beyond just javascript/python front end

Literally all of the STEM degrees are going down the gutter.
Our economy is just not in a position to require all the engineers and others coming out of college.
