I think a low-end first gen Ryzen is already faster than the Cell, and so are most of the old Intel 4 cores from the Haswell+ era.

No, a *single* Zen 5 core is up to 1900 gflops using all AVX pipes for single precision FMA. All the SPEs combined were only ~205 gflops. And you don't have to do any DMA, mailboxing or threading to 10x it.

no, properly optimized i believe it was a bit faster than a desktop sandy bridge for some workloads, but absolute garbage for most things even in 2006.
