I think this drive comes from our younger selves looking for approval from parents via worldly success and the vagueness of what bus involved in having to dominate others to realise big accomplishments. It's coming to terms with the fact that this is what I desire. I do not desire success so much as underlings. I do not desire wealth so much as serfs. I do not desire marital love so much as harems. I do not desire compliments so much as idolization. Coming to terms with my own sinfulness has recognized that I want to replace God with myself and rule over this world as something far worse than the devil. All "start-ups," I imagine, partake of a benign form of this "desiring to be God via usurpation" in some small way. Not all founders are as animated by this, nor as sinful as I am, but they can certainly be subject to these urges.

I might be willing to work for a startup, but actually starting one? I don't think I could stomach trying to pander to the needs of some market. I already admit my tastes and interest are more niche and highly doubt any idea I can come up with and have passion for would not be profitable in the slightest.

Start-ups do require this odd ability to be passionate, i.e. willing to type and talk a lot, about something that is profitable. This is almost a matter of luck and less a matter of pure "work ethic." That being said, making something to profit is inherently not wrong as long as it's not sinful but making something just to become wealthy rather than comfortable for one's loved ones is likely problematic.

The vast majority of zooms seem to think raising money = your money. Anyway, startups in your 20s are a bad idea, UNLESS you are a trust fund kid and well connected. Thats all it is its not IQ. You get put into the system then (YC etc) and if they like you you end up “exiting” to big tech and make a little money. Its basically big tech R&D. A properly bootstrapped business I respect though but for the non rich thats later in life when you have savings.
