Linux reaching 6% market share has rubbed me the wrong way. Is BSD usable in 2038 -13? Can you run Linux apps on it and does it also have Wine?

I feel bad for freeBSD desu. Partly, they kind of deserve being used and abused for sticking to their shitty licenses. FreeBSD actually did a lot of good work historically, the number 1 NAS platform worldwide is based on freeBSD. Apple started with forking their shit then close sourcing it, imagine seeing a big corpo make millions off of your work but you can't benefit from their closed source improvements.
I'm not saying gpl is perfect but is protected the linux kernel from being effectively stolen and dumped the devs to scrounge dumpsters for half eaten meals.
The bsd licenses are genuinely some of the stupidest fucking idea in existence and apple showed us how someone could basically rape anyone who uses it.

You made me think of something, the Linux kernel has official Sony drivers for the Dualshock 4 and Dualsense, probably for Android support but it also benefits anyone running GNU/Linux. Are these the same drivers they use on Orbis OS? Did they also send them as a contribution to FreeBSD?

as much as I hate the bsd licenses, I actually kind of feel bad for the OS and devs.
The project has definitely proven successful yet unknown and unserviced.
Sad that sony uses it for their playstation when at the same time you'd have a hard time gaming in BSD itself.

Doesn't Docker just wrangle like 3 or 4 Linux features into one (With the Mac and Windows versions just running a Linux VM)? Do those features not exist in BSD? If they don't, why not just do the Mac/Windows approach?

I don't think doing an equivalent work will cut it if it's not compatible to the point I can docker run hello-world and have my custom app up and running and everything below docker is abstracted away.

iXsystems abandoned FreeBSD for Linux with Scale though. Core is abandonware, and has been forked into zVault.

The only open source player in the FreeBSD based appliance market that homelab users might be exposed to now is pf/opnsense for networking. Even then I wonder if that has legs long term. FreeBSD/OpenBSD pf implementations have diverged very hard and now linux has nftables which are a lot less dogshit than iptables. That being said the only good Linux based router in a box is VyOS and even then the firewall component is not the primary design goal.
