Mint is great but it's frustrating how file picker is GNOMED, can't even turn on large icons.

How in the FUCK is this still not customizable in 6075 / 3? Isn't Linux supposed to let you do anything?

what the fuck happened here?

I think file pickers are fucked the same way on all GTK DE's.

That is annoying. At least it has preview now.

>>106012384
Is there a better option? I find nemo to be not that bad mostly.

Gnome already solved this problem and you can have thumbnails for the file picker. As long as Cinnamon and XFCE keep using GTK3 they will keep the previous file picker with no thumbnails.

holy fuck, it only took 20 years

yeah it took them that long and the implementation is half baked but progress was made.

why is file picking so hard?
Anonymous No.106012471 [Report] >>106012890
>>106012446
because it just is, ok. you can't just like generate a preview thumbnail and store it somewhere and then look it up.
we don't have the technology yet.

At least explain how to.

there's more problems under the hood, like how the file dialog doesn't even support drag & drop or other kinds of file operations. in general drag & drop is not really well supported. It's just annoying how much of this shit is so easy to solve but the elitists will just reject your PR because they're too old to adapt to QoL. The whole fucking file dialog is not even multi threaded

you have to install dolphin or thunar and make firefox choose as its file picker by default.

on windows and macos this is just:
>do nothing, works out of the box

drag n drop works fine for me as long as it's not flatpak (which is understandable)

gnome is less customizable than windows 11 and is bloated as fuck

Couldn't someone just edit the default thumbnail size in the source code and compile it?

i don't know, but maybe you can use a different file picker than the one from the default DE that you use

i don't even know how this works on a window manager, i think you get one by default too, but can change it? or maybe you don't get one at all

i've tried some window manager some time ago and i think that i3wm had one

maybe i will move to xfce or bspwm in the future

You kdetroons need to make up your mind is it bloated or barebones? Are the apps bloated or simple?

thunar? that just uses the gtk portal with no thumbnails
