Tribute to our Yuri OP edition.
The mission of /ptg/ is to promote the highest possible standards of tracker service by providing members with opportunities for professional development, by recognizing technical competence through examinations and by advancing the interests of its members. Concomitant with our dedication to infrastructural excellence and meritocratic recognition, /ptg/ remains unencumbered by the ubiquity of publicly accessible resources. Parallel redundancies on inferior platforms are neither noteworthy nor welcomed; membership is neither solicited nor encouraged among those whose affiliations lie elsewhere.

This has happened a few times now. Why? I can't imagine the nfo is being touched between usenet and torrent. Is it just me or does the excitement about private trackers fade a bit over time?
Peak excitement was probably passing the RED interview followed by signing up to AB.
>>106018566private trackers are slowly dying imo
Gen Z are allergic to technology
>>106018575One frustrating thing with private trackers is when you cannot get the content you are looking for there despite having access to all relevant trackers.
You can try to make a request but on most sites that is nearly useless. Even on RED i had to wait months to get one of my requests filled (spent over 100 GiB in bountry).
>>106018618I'd just buy the stuff I want if it wasn't only available on vinyl. I bought stuff and uploaded it already.

>>106018618Trackers help by like 10% maybe.
If you have niche needs, sorry, you have to buy shit yourself.
I spend a considerable amount of money monthly to get the shit i want. No tracker offers them
>>106018566The RPG aspect should come second not first. It's a means to an end. We are on these trackers to pirate shit. I can download whatever I want whenever I want now which means I already won. I do the little side quests when I have spare time.
>>106018687This has always been the case with piracy. You are relying on someone else to share what they bought with you. Except when it's on streaming but that wasn't relevant 20 years ago and we can get anything we want from that now so it isn't relevant to this conversation either. At first I had no money so I recruited a bunch of people who were buying records and started a scene group. Then I spent a bunch of my own money on music and shared it. An if I don't do it who will type situation. Things are more accessible now but that kinda kills the community aspect which makes it harder for like minded people to gather and share what is actually rare. Rarity or inaccessibility does not necessarily make things better or worthwhile, but it does mean they are of higher value in piracy terms.
>>106018575>finally a safe space for anything millennial or older>somehow a bad thinggood riddance.

>>106018741I wouldn't say bad, only that once our generation dies, there trackers will die too.
>>106019136I won't care if I'm dead. But seriously at some point a younger generation is going to need to be given a clue. The "just import jeets to run it all" mentality isn't going to work. Teaching some of these little bastards how to properly use a computer might lead to them forming functional piracy communities of their own.
>>106019189in order to teach someone something, they need to want to learn
they don't want to learn.
they are not even forced to learn, because everything is so simple, and gatekeeping is the biggest sin ever.
>>106019208Without gatekeeping, normies who join would ruin the experience for autistic people anon
Normies don't spend time with curation or quality.
>>106019279that's what I'm saying
to normies, gatekeeping is the biggest sin ever
Consider the scenario where there's a chance for some trackers to stay alive for a very long time, let's say hundreds of years.
Will they ban 150+ years old accounts? I assume some of them would be passed down from father to son among several generations.
>>106019322Instead of giving my son my account I would just invite him and give him a shitload of BP. If users are known to be dead their accounts get disabled for security reasons. If an account was more than 100 years old wouldn't it be obvious that the person is likely not still alive?
>>106019340This is overly optimistic, but I hope a tracker would last more than 30-40 years. Can the internet last 100 years though?
I'm changing the topic here, but the world nowadays is changing fast as its is stirring away from globalization toward isolationism,
We aren't even sure if the internet will have as much as much as freedom as now.
Everything and anything is offensive nowadays and "mainstream" internet is cracking down hard on piracy and free-speech amongst other niche topics.
>>106019340How are you going to invite him if he's going to inherit the same house and continue seeding the same torrents from the same IP range?
It's going to look like it's a dupe account.
>>106019379just like the banning of eroge from itch.io
the future looks bleak if we don't do something
>>106019322>Will they ban 150+ years old accounts? No. Because if you joined 15 years ago and reached 5Gb of uploaded after a year you'll be granted inactivity immunity. it doesn't matter that you haven't logged in in 50 years. Private tracker accounts are a right for those who joined early on, regardless of contribution or activity, but for new users it is a privilege. You have 15+ year old accounts that have been inactive for years now but that's fine. New people however can go fuck themselves because, well... it's their fault for being late to the party. It doesn't matter how active these users would have been. They would rather lock down the tracker and stop recruiting new, active users and let old, inactive users on the site. It's such a bullshit system. You see these Redditors constantly flaming about inactivity pruning but that's just how it should be. heck, they should prune WAY more inactive accounts. Logging in every 3 months is a joke, if you can't even do that you shouldn't take up a user slot for somebody else who would actually use the site. And people are seriously wondering why private trackers are "slowly dying"?
Now compare this with the fact that most users are in multiple trackers, but only actively use 1 and keep the others as a "backup" and you have 1-2 good trackers for each category and all the other trackers are fucking dogshit.
>>106019385You just send a staff PM. Same as any other edge case weird situation.
>>106019379I owe basically my whole life to the internet. Without it I'd probably be a ham radio nerd living with my mom. But I'd be dishonest if I said I thought it has been good for humanity as a whole. I feel more disillusioned with it than I ever have been at this point. If it went away I would cry about missing out on all the pirated downloads. Being able to make international calls for free. Also access to information that aligns with my worldview. But everything else about this place is shit now. It seems unfixable too. You can't undo generative AI. Even if they all go bankrupt from failing to monetize it you can still generate pictures and run a shitty LLM if you have a GPU. "It's bankrupting artists." "It's going to kill us all." How about the truth instead, it's filling the internet to the brim with so much slop that pretty soon it will be hard to find anything real. Monetization turning internet posting into a career is at fault for this too. Fuck all this garbage. Maybe it's good if it dies.
>>106019340>>106019385If the father is autistically invested, he probably has his own seeding rig with tons of valuable stuff, he might even be the last seeder for some of them, he would surely teach his own son to continue doing the same, to never let torrents die, to spread his seed and to continue archiving valuable things. The son would just inherit the seeding rig and continue keeping it running.
>>106019379If nobody does anything, it's going to continue becoming worse.
Sometimes, the best solution is to just throw away everything and start from scratch, to go back to the roots and build some other parallel network, which is kept hidden and can be accessed only if you have the required technical knowledge.
Information about it should be spread only through the word of mouth, or through other private communities.
However, building one such network is way more harder than just making a tracker from scratch, and you need way more skilled and dedicated people for it to become a reality.
This doesn't mean you don't have to try, but you have to be aware it involves way more effort and dedication, to plan how to make it better, more resilient and to prevent it from becoming what the internet became today.

I'm semi-new to torrenting and and trying to get back into and to understand it on a conceptual level.
So a private tracker is just a website that has a database of magnet links, their info etc right?
What is stopping someone from getting membership in those sites, harvesting all of the magnet links, and then just copy pasting them online for other to start downloading content from the original group of private users?
>>106029118It's called a tracker for a reason. It tracks the data AND the users.
Has anyone noticed the increase in the number of faggy millenials/zoomers who try and say that piracy is moral or "good"? They have meme catch phrases like "If buying isn't owning them piracy isn't stealing" as if paying for temporary access to something hasn't always been a thing, also no one is stopping you from just buying a physical copy of a game, digital file from GOG, buying a CD, etc.
It just feels like it's this larger trend of normiefags being unable to ever see themselves as the bad guy and needing to feel like every single action they take is some virtuous middle finger to "the man". In the past people torrented and believed it WAS stealing, and THAT is what made it based.
>>106029145>106029145So how does it do that? The torrent client doesn't ask for a login, does it just ban any IP that doesn't already correspond to an account?
>>106029179The torrent that you grab from the tracker to open in your software includes your login.

>>106029574He got banned from PTP during the freeleech I believe
I figured out how the Chinese create the timeline picture of all their trackers. It's with Pt-Plugin-Plus browser extension. Well, it stopped being supported ever since Chrome shifted to manifest v3, but I found the updated extension called PT Depiler. I installed it and auto imported some sites, but not every site has auto-import and I don't know how to manually add those sites. Anyway I made my incomplete timeline picture. It'll come in handy when inviters ask for it. Welp I trust the owner of the extension doesn't hack my accounts, otherwise I'm cooked.
>>106029118What the other users haven't told you yet, they were kinda pointing you at it, is that the tracker sends you the other peers IP addresses and ports. To make an attack like this work you would need to scrape this information and make your own tracker to return it. I have seen this happen before when I was a member of deepbassnine. Some jeet made a public site that was scraping peers from multiple torrent sites. I reported it to the admins and it took them awhile to fix the problem.
I have a question lads. I like torrenting stuff and I like seeding, but sometimes the files I download have a lot of extra bullshit, I'll torrent a movie file for example, that has a bunch of subtitle and language packs, but I only want to keep a few of them, i.e the torrent will have english, spanish, italian, russian subtitles/tracks, and I only want to have the english/spanish subs/tracks on my machine, but I also want to keep seeding.
Is it possible to only seed portions of a file, and how would that work? If I just edit the file to delete or change shit that changes the file how does a torrent client handle that? Can I make it work where I still seed the original pieces of data but not the stuff that I changed/deleted/added?

It's better you don't comment or post at all unless it's totally harmless. Might as well just skip the unless part and never post anything except torrents. This post is sure to get someone replying crying that trackers are evil non free speech zones. But truthfully you shouldn't care. You are there to pirate shit not socialize. If you forget this perhaps you deserved your ban.
I'm 99% sure rarefilmm got banned because he didn't know his inviter or he himself invited someone he isn't friends with. Most people banned are like this. It was a matter of time, but it was probably thanks to us that staff looked into his account.
>>106033438He was also accepting donations for posting this shit to the public. Acting like he deserves to be paid for it.
>>106031449garbage
as always, use annas archive
>>106033480Private trackers also accept donations
>>106033524That's different. Private trackers are private and the money goes to keep them online. You don't need money to keep a bunch of links on file hosters online. Do you know how cheap a VPS that can be paid with crypto is? A domain? Cuckflare is free too. That covers all the opsec bases which this absolute retard never even thought about. Zero sympathy.
>>106033550It's not different
>>106033816Whatever. I could run that faggot's website for the price of my dinner from Burger King tonight. I cannot say the same about private trackers. He's a parasite. You're coping.
why is GGn's tracker down but not the site, wth
>>106033878GGn has the most incompetent staff
>>106033816It's different because private trackers (should) take their opsec more seriously. They also need to buy proxies, a domain from a privacy respecting registrar (those are obviously more expensive) and other shit like IRC server. Adding all of that together will give you a pretty big number. I believe AB and maybe some others are pretty transparent about it and you can see on the donation page how much of the donation money goes where, should give you an insight of how much everything can cost.
>>106033878Because their site is obviously not hosted on the same machine as their tracker.
fearnopeer news:
Effective immediately:
Any non-VIP account that has never downloaded anything since registration, or has been inactive (no downloads) for 60 consecutive days, will be permanently deleted without further warning.
This policy will be strictly enforced to maintain an active and efficient user base.
VIP members are exempt from this rule.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Better start paying now, sirs.
>>106035125>has been inactive (no downloads) for 60 consecutive daysEvery tracker should do this, but they should exempt the people who are the last seeder to some torrents. As soon as they are not the last seeder anymore on any torrent, they can be kicked out.
>>106031449me and a few other lads put japanese shit on there. And I occasionally see (let's say <=30% maybe) posts in the "pop your cherry first upload post here" thread or whatever it's called in foreign languages.
>>106035216If I'm seeding terabytes of data I shouldn't be forced to download some slop just to checkmark a bullshit rule.
>>106035658You can always look around, check some low seeded torrents, select one that looks interesting and download it, this way you can find new and interesting stuff you didn't even know about that might need more love. Seeding torrents with many seeders doesn't help a lot, seeding those with few seeders does.
Or even better, upload a new torrent, that also counts as activity. As such,
>has been inactive (no downloads and no uploads) for 60 consecutive dayswould be a better rule.
I'm not that into games anymore, but I wanna coollect GGN.
>>106035658This is such a flawed way of thinking. Do you seriously believe that the person who gets your user slot won't seed any torrents? of course they will. And additionally to seeding torrents, they would probably also actively upload, vote on requests, chat on IRC, post on the forums etc. While you did none of that. If you don't use your tracker, you should give others who will use it your user slot. If you just want to casually download torrents you should use mid-tier trackers for that. Top tier trackers should be reserved for the dedicated users.
>>106035876Please don't.
The real flawed way of thinking is expecting that recruiters are going to open up the floodgates and let your neon ass in.
>>106035987They should be trimming the fat consisting of those who joined with open signups or with way more easier requirements who barely contribute, who barely seed any torrents or barely do any occasional download.
>>106035976I think I'll coollect it just to take up a user slot.
>>106035976uh oh melty
I'll use the tracker however I please.
>HDBits blocks invites from China, Egypt, Latvia, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Vietnam; if you are from one of these countries, unfortunately you are not able to join.
imagine being from one of these countries
>>106036330>Ukrainein a war with russia
also can't get into hdb
>>106036330Why did they remove poland from the list?
>>106036330That's an incomplete version of the list.
>HDBits blocks invites from China, Egypt, Latvia, Russia, Turkey, India, Poland, Ukraine and Vietnam; if you are from one of these countries, unfortunately you are not able to join.
>>106036423>India blocked>Pakistan is welcomeMake it make sense.
>>106036431I believe the biggest uploader of hindi movies on HDB is from Pakistan. There are a few jeets there from before it was banned.
>>106036528>uploader of hindi movieswho on hdb is watching these movies?
Fuck, public trackers are so dead I had to come here and start to look into joining something private. I'm warning you all, things are looking very grim if a normie like me has to try this. I have barely ever posted on 4chan, been lurking for 14 years.
>>106036548If public used to be enough for you I suggest buying a cheap invite to iptorrents or torrentleech on eBay. IPT is the better one imo but some disagree. If you don't have extreme autism trying to get into the best trackers might not be worth it. Just take advantage of their freeleech until you build up a good ratio then go from there.
>>106036540I get them for my parents
>>106036606Isn't it illegal according to their rules? Guess that would get me banned
>>106036837It's not allowed by the rules. You can pay more to get in by official means. But at the same time on those trackers it's poorly enforced and there are few consequences. Don't try to do it on any higher tier trackers.

>>106035125Good thing I didn't sign up to that shithole
Neon here. just realized what you guys meant by Poonit3d. I'm in the shit tier ones and they are infested. Are the staff largely poojeets too?
>>106037770You sound really mad lil bro
>>106038104sorry anon, but even just thinking about signing up to FNP makes you a pajeet

What's wrong with you guys.

>>106038645>recurring payment for piracy>paying for usenetStop giving out shit advice you're going to give people the wrong idea about /ptg/
>>106039323*paying for convenience
Same shit as we're doing, just centralized. Check how much your paying for power each month for your homeserver/seedbox. Plus you have to manage it.
>>106039378>instead of using a decentralized system to maintain the booty, let's use some shitty centralized hostingThe pirates these days...
>>106039378It's the worst way to do it. You could join IPT, buy a NVME plan from whatbox once, then just hop on every freeleech swarm and you're guaranteed to get like 20TB+ of buffer. Pay once and keep it. Then you can zap any hit and runs with your buffer and never seed if you want. But nooooo you need to be a paypig forever if you want convenience. That's the same stupid shit that retards like you were spouting in that usenet thread the other day when all you need to do is look in the archives and learn how to use Shodan. Your advice is worse than useless.
>>106013220 (OP)Are you a 'download all at once' chad or a 'download one by one' incel?
>>106039436i assume you don't have a multi-PB server to 'download all at once'
>>106039435>just hop on every freeleech swarm and you're guaranteed to get like 20TB+ of bufferIf the torrent is immediately freeleeched and auto-added so you're in the swarm from the zeroth second, maybe. Otherwise you'll only get like 20kb/s upload for not even the whole duration of the freeleech regardless of what your connection is capable of because of how many seeders there are.
>>106039436Downlolad and watch the first episode. If I like it then I snatch the rest.
>>106039436I download my torrents one by one.
>>106039668I have done it manually watching the IRC. The trick is not to jump on a bunch at once. One at a time. If you're seeding with a seedbox not just the initial activity matters either. More people will jump on to add to your take.
>>106039844Either you get the initial activity or you rely on having such a massive seed volume that the pathetic trickle of upload from any single torrent adds up to something meaningful. I'll cross-seed a big new release on GGn and get 10-20gb of upload out of it, if I'm lucky, in the three days of freeleech. And basically zero outside of that. Granted the situation is a lot better for film/tv. I got a shitton of upload on IPT just for having watched and not deleted Top Gear.
