How to prevent this? Aging the account before using for registration?

Let go already. E-mail has been dead for years, and if you think proton honors anonymity or any effectual measure of privacy, you fell for the meme.

Yes obviously gmail is the gold standard, but proton is easier to make new accounts on.

Create a Vivaldi, Tutanota or Posteo.de email address and use it to verify your Proton Mail address.

Why does it matter if an email provider is a honeypot? Nobody uses non work emails for communication anymore. I haven't used email for anything other than signing in to stuff in years because all communication happens on messaging apps now.

Won't work for new accounts. He has to create at the very least an email address at another email provider.

>email has been dead for years
Anon, let me tell you a story, my story, the story of what happened less than a month ago

I was interested in Linux and security, and I switched to fedora Linux and fucking grapheneOS at the same exact time. I took proper precautions before doing so, I backed up my files, I made sure I knew all my passwords for everything, including my emails. Everything should have been a nice, smooth, easy transition. After all, I still haven't had any major problems with either one themselves.
Only.
The.
Emails.
I can't make phonecalls because the free app I used for a VOIP phone number requires my email, I can't check my medical appointments and have to trust on a whim that I wrote down the right dates, I can't call my mother on Facebook messenger because it will only log me in if I click the verification email, I can't play games to relax because steam also needs the verification link to be clicked to fucking log in.
And why, why oh why can't I log in to my email? Because the only options are to send a verification email to another fucking email that I can't access without sending a verification email to the first email address, or the other option, to send a code to the phone number I can't access without fucking logging in to my email.

Email isn't fucking dead, emails just aren't used to communicate anymore.

I knew we hit rock bottom when e-mail services started requiring pre-existing third party e-mail addresses for registration.

I ran my own server for a while, and everybody would validate my mx records prior to 2009, then something happened and that was the end of it.
