As long you don't plan to edit photos, videos or 3d model, Linux is better in every way.

>3d model
Pretty much every 3D modeller I know uses Blender even on Windows and Mac, you only have a point in terms of CAD

Linux is worth if you're a tech nerd and you like programming. Other than that, it's garbage

I said "even on", not that they only do it on Windows and Mac.
My point is that Blender, the 3D modelling software most people will use, is on Linux (Also, Maya and Houdini are both available if you prefer those instead). The same can't really be said for CAD

None of this would've happened if gtk had thumbnails in its file picker

>tech nerd
Windows is better if you are tech nerd since every simulation program work better in windows
>and you like programming
Sure web dev and data analysis are way more convenient on linux, but that's about it

Ah, my bad. Yeah, that's true. I remember trying to get EZ-Cam to work on Ubuntu with WINE and failed after a whole day of trying. I really wanted to replace all the Windows installs at that workplace.

i built my linux setup from debian net install and used macos/windows until i had something i could fully switch to. the goal was to have a system that didn't waste disk space or CPU/RAM for things i don't explicitly intend, which had always been a dream of mine when using macos/windows. i also had a vision of a terminal-based desktop experience. i spent countless hours tinkering and learning of course.
my proudest achievement is a bash install script (and backup system) that i run after installing the debian net iso, which is useful for applying different settings on certain hardware or for certain use case.
the payoff for the time investment has has been worth it. i have a setup that can be installed on a huge range of computers with minimal effort. i can control everything through an ssh session. all of my computers run the same setup now.

I wish FreeCAD was better, though I guess BricsCAD technically exists.
