If this happens then it's truly over for America and any hope we have of ever being at the forefront of technology again like we were for the past 100 years. The government should honestly be doing everything in its power to save Intel right now.

their strategy is very transparently announcing US will never make chips again unless they get a 100 billion subsidy from trump (80% of which will be used for bonuses for upper management)

use case for america being the king of hardware -- peddling social media nonsense, enabling jeet outsourcing, furthering the goonedemic, enabling the existence of the state of israel?

That's fine because $20 billion is still enough to make the chips.

it would be pretty crazy if america (and israel) allow this to happen
this is literally a national security issue
the us shovels a trillion dollars at their useless military every year now, they can't spare a 100bn of that to keep this pos afloat?
legitimately this needs a freddie/fannie takeover-bailout

that would be great but in all likelihood they will remain a public company that gets corpo neetbux while cutting corners with their products until planes start falling out of the sky like boeing

They literally had too much money until about 2017ish when AMD started to compete again.
Do you know how much money intel wasted on useless project and buying out useless small companies and so much other crap.
By 2017 their focus was on anything but nodes and CPUs they had this vision that RISC is going to beat them in the next 20 years because everyone is going to be using tablets and mobile phones on the consumer side and that servers were going to go RISC too. They probably knew way in advance via corpo espionage that Apple was building their M1.
They knew that just like how the PowerPC architecture died when Apple made the switch to Intel so might Intel die.

They could have at least used Microsoft money and expertise to make a new console APU combo. They could have do so much that would have lead to actual progress.

Instead they decided processors don't need all cores equal it's enough to have P cores and E Cores. That cemented their death.

Intel will be sold in parts to patent trolls. Maybe Nvidia and other big tech companies will buy some to avoid lawsuits

lmao, this is one of the best moves Intel has announced in over a decade. It makes no sense to not use TSMC like AMD, Apple, Nvidia and every other big player does.

A lot of people don't appreciate this. We have a "services" economy where "we'll bomb you if you stop being gay and trading in USD" is the service.

If there's one place where Intel is still relevant it's extremely portable laptops.

I don't think Apple's move changed that.

Because the chinks won't stop at 10nm
Their code will be just as bad, but it will run faster
In an actual conflict china could blockade Taiwan in a day and severely limit the west's supply of silicon
This stupid scenario has literally just happened with the rare earth metals debacle. The US used to have the biggest mine in the world until they got fucked by environmental regs, then china fucked them, then when they tried to reopen the mine up with clean tech china just fucked them again by dropping prices and the us govt refused to step in and just pay to keep the thing open.

The obvious solution is to spin the fabs off, TSMC has enough capacity for the big boys and all their potential customers are their competitors.
>Intel: Hey AMD, use our new fab it should beat TSMC's
>AMD: Fuck off retard, your our biggest enemy in the server and consumer CPU field
>Intel: Okay, hey Apple? That M6 chip would be great on 14A
>Apple: Fuck off retard, we literally designed our own chips to get away from you.
>Intel: Uh, Nvidia how about that 7 series you've got coming?
>Nvidia: You literally just entered into the performance GPU space, fuck off.
Who's not a direct competitor who would use this? Google for their mobile chip sets? Qualcomm? Some mysterious moonshot AI chip from someone with too much money like openai? Genuine question here.

Intel is a foundry that makes products. It's especially bad that their productizing process is so intertwined with their fabs and the lack of industry standard processes that you wouldn't be able to separate products from fab until bob swan/pat came in to restructure the whole organisation
