Do you neatly organize your files or do you just put your stuff wherever the fuck?

For my whole life I devised a hyper-specific completely idiosyncratic organizational system that worked well for me, then over the past 18 months I just let it collapse into an abject mess โ€“ i think i'm sad or something

And program icons are in start menu or on the taskbar. No need for desktop at all.

I used to just throw them whatever out of lazyness growing up but one day when I was like 19, I decided to sit down and actually organize ALL my files correctly because it was bothering me. Process took me like 3 days to finish but I had everything perfectly organized and labeled. From then on I've just built upon that since.

I keep them incrementally organized, as in if i'm working on something it's going to be all scattered on my desktop and when i'm done i put everything in a proper directory tree finely archived.

Organized. Even my desktop icons are organized based on groupings so I can get to them faster.

You would have lost months searching for what you wanted instead. All organization is you either waste time putting it in the right place when putting it away, or waste time searching for it when you need it. The worst is when you waste time putting it in the right place, but live with someone who doesn't, so you have to waste time searching for it later too.

Organized, autistically so. I'm kind of ashamed at the sheer amount of time I've spent making it perfect. Every now and then the way its organized bothers me and I'll reorganize it in a completely different way and it bugs the fuck out of me until its done.

>I just save everything to my downloads folder and when it gets too full I just make a new folder and drag everything into it
I do the same with hard drives. When I fill it up I get a new one that's twice as large. I copy the entirety of the old one into a directory called "c:\old_disk" on the new. I then keep the old hard drive in a closet as backup.
Been doing this for decades.
Luckily I'm not hoarding movies/porn/etc, so it takes a while to run out of space.
Somewhere in "c:\old_disk\old_disk\old_disk\..." there is an old Windows 98 install.

I used to just put them wherever, but after switching to Loonix, I had to get my shit together because gnome doesn't let you just dump shit on the desktop.

Anything that isn't an image or a document or music or videos goes into downloads.
