Open my laptop to browse the internet
>firefox has crashed
Why would it do that, the laptop's been sitting there untouched for an entire day
>restart firefox
>my mouse cursor shrunk
>what
>you probably can't even find it in my screenshot

please don't make fun of how small linux made my mouse cursor. There's nothing wrong with micro mouse cursors and this one works perfectly fine for clicking on links and interacting with websites.

If I don't update linux for 5 years and then they give me an update or else ultimatum, what are the chances I can successfully update linux without it breaking

Depends on the distro, if it's a long term support one (ubuntu lts, debian stable, rhel, etc...) there should be no problems, just follow the instructions for changing version (usually first update the packages at the distro end life state and the proceed with the distro version upgrade). If it's a rolling release one (eg: Arch) you're fucked.

Debian, Ubuntu LTS, RHEL and OpenSUSE Leap will update no problem. Shit like Arch won't because it's an inherent limitation of rolling release.

just use inter as your browser font and uncheck "let websites use their own font"
there are other fonts but inter seems the closest to me
