Back in my forum days, I remember engaging in arguments over the silliest stuff that lasted 10+ pages. I even developed anxiety at some point, because I dreaded having to respond to yet another 500-word post trying to poke holes in my arguments. In hind sight, it was funny how an academic-level debate could be sparked for almost no reason. This is one advantage that imageboards have over forums, if you get tired of arguing, you can simply leave the thread and nobody will hold it against you.
