Resting your wrists on the table or even on a wrist rest while typing IS how you get carpal tunnel and all kinds of aches and pains.
The "proper" way to do it is with a floating wrist kind of how you would play the piano.
Or you know, you could just type with 2 fingers for the rest of your life.
I don't really think it matters as long as you aren't too slow or getting pain from it.
Honestly I think 80wpm with 97% accuracy is good enough to get by. Even 60wpm with good accuracy is kinda OK.
