If you're doing mouse heavy tasks like CAD you should be using a trackball.

They work, but it won't solve having to move the mouse around, for the ultimate ergonomic experience buy a thumb trackball.

Follow a very low fat diet for a couple weeks. The pain in your wrists should disappear.

get the mx master ergo mouse, it's a good middle ground between a retarded vertical mouse and a normal one. If you're poor, get the keychron version, it features an "infinite scroll" , a side scroll and an almost identical shape to the mx.

sideways mouse is retarded. But mice do have an ergonomics problem: they're all too small. Logitech (now a dead brand) had the MX-1100 that was the right size, and they've never made one that big in a decade. Ball mice are good though.

Oldfag here:
Yes, all ergonomic mice are slightly better in terms of wrist stress than your average gayming mouse.

I started having issues after breaking my wrist, so I navigate and alternate between trackballs and ergo mice now. No pain or tiredness since alternating.

Get a cheap vertical mouse to test if you like it, and remember you can have many connected to your devices, don't need to stay stuck with a single one.

Also, start using the mouse with your non-dominant hand, you pick this up very quick, releasing stress from your dominant hand and later on you can use whatever hand you like.

Trackballs are even worse, especially thumb ones, you will put strain on one single finger instead of distributing it over multiple muscles? Doesn't make sense, and normal trackballs force you to keep your fingers in air more than normal mouse where you actually rest them and only move when you need to click.

back when i still had access to ebscohost i tried looking for actual studies on this subject and what i remember is that they found they dont do anything for carpel tunnel or RSI but just reduce ulnar deviation, which is not an injury you even get from using a mouse

I'm using a ProtoArc ergonomic vertical, this brand turned up to be nice and relatively cheap so I also got trackballs and touchpads.

You can find a similar no-brand version in /csg/ sites for cheaper, those are also nice to test a form-factor or short term usage.

I've had ulnar nerve problems and mild carpal tunnel syndrome for years.
Switching to an ergonomic mouse+keyboard combo made it so that my hands dont hurt unless i spend 12+ hours at the desk without taking some breaks.

In most cases you are better getting a trackpad eespecially if you're doing basic office work
Move to a trackball non thumb if it doesn't cut it for work stuff

try using small sized mouse
it's the only mouse my hand can tolerate since i can use my wrist and/or fingers to move it so less strain on either
obviously buy a cheap one first to try it out before buying a really good one
also you can use your upper arm to move it by resting your forearm (near your elbow) at the edge of your desk with your whole elbow hanging

Yeah, ergo mice do kind of help, but what you really need is a rice bucket. Cheap as fuck and with a little bit of dedication, your wrist and even elbow pain will gradually go away. I had wrist pain and this shit fixed it after around a month of regular use. Plus my forearms look somewhat chiseled now.

An exercise where you shove your hand into a bucket filled with rice and perform movements like rotating your hand. It's great for therapy, but also just improves your overall wrist, hand and forearm strength and resilience.

I've tried a number of ergonomic mice including OP's pic and picrelated and began to develop severe pain. I found that all "ergonomic" brands use trash buttons which require significantly more force than gaming mice (especially the scroll wheel buttons), and that this was the greatest source of strain. Go with whatever mouse is comfortable and has the softest buttons; this fixed all my hand issues. Gaming mice tend to have very high quality/soft switches; I think mine uses Omron switches.

I simply rotated my trackball ninety degrees and use a beanbag wrist support. Pic related isn't my arm and trackball but shows the idea.
