i'm really struggling using a flip phone right now
i mean, basically i'm aware how much i've struggled for 15 years.
deleted social media, stopped texting so much, and trying to live in the moment. but i never get to go out, do social things, and so it keeps just fucking with my head.
i woke up alone, like i have for 15 years, and my mind is in fucking survival mode. i don't want to be this way. the smartphone is a fake cure, it doesn't actual make you content. but without it, i feel like i'm going crazy. and i think i always have been crazy.

Sure but it takes 4x better pictures (or more). Also it doesn't have any apps on it. It doesn't make you distracted with social media, scrolling 4chan etc.

That's the thing. Going without a phone (and internet in general) forces you to confront your problems head on. You cant just escape it anymore by getting lost in video games or by watching youtube videos.

Personally Ive started going out more, going for long walks, and hitting the gym.

at this point every single application on your phone is designed to maximize "engagement" and user retention. Every single one. Through
>notifications from every single app (can disable but your average zoomer will not do this)
>pretty colors, stimulating animations, and high refresh rates
>personally tailored skinner box algorithms

they were literally raised by smartphones and ipads. They were designed to be addictive and they literally are addicted. I don't blame them one bit for finding some way to "detox" from it, since their brains have been shaped by it. Life pre and post smartphones was drastically, immensely different. Human brains were not designed to have something that requires your attention at your beck and call at literally all times. There was a study done that measured the blood pressure and heart rate of students with and without their smart phone in the room while they did some random task. Universally, they all showed signs of stress when they weren't allowed access to it.

They're fucked. If it takes being a "consumerist" to break free of this hell, I wish them the best. You weren't labeled a consumerist whore in 2000 for having a
>flip phone (note that texting plans were still expensive and only really being adopted by college kids)

the issue for zoomies is that their lives are tied up in social media apps. There is no IRL vs internet divide anymore, they're one and the same. It doesn't matter if they can uninstall the app if they have no social life without it. There's no reason to have the phone if you don't actually engage with any apps.

It was awful. I don't use social media but you don't realize how much you reach for a smartphone for so many tasks. Want to look up what else that actor's been in? Want to take a photo? Those Ipod Nanos are crap. They are harder to repair than most smartphones. When my battery went bad on my LG Velvet 5G, I popped off the back cover, replaced the battery, and applied adhesive back on the glass panel.
On an Ipod Nano, you have to solder a new battery and the process to getting there is a hassle.

I don't take pictures. I don't listen to music. I don't need a watch because there's always a clock somewhere around me. I don't record audio.

I do use a book reader and read paper books.

99% of my phone usage is work messaging and testing websites on mobile at work. The moment I get home, the phone goes in a drawer until the next day (or if it rings). Friends and family duly instructed to call if they actually want anything from me.

I think that's a bit stupid if you have at least a minimal amount of self control.
But there's a point to some those. A watch as an accessory, most people wear one still. A book reader has a different type of display altogether. The IEMs I don't get, you can use those on a phone too. Voice recorder is kind of a niche thing.
But a camera, I found out is a nice excuse to get the fuck out and a hobby (an expensive one unfortunately). I borrowed a DLSR camera (Rebel T7 with the kit lens that it includes) and I wasn't even remotely interested in anything regarding photography, but now I kinda am. I take pictures every now and then with it. I understand it to be really low tier equipment that costs considerably more than better stuff out there but I didn't spend money on it. Unlike most of those other things though, it's weird to use a camera in public. People think it's ancient technology or a weird artifact.
I've been taking a few pictures in very usual spots that surely have been photographed to death, and some people there follow suit with their phones, some look at me weird, some guy asked me to take a picture of him. Socially speaking cameras draw a bit of attention. Phones do not, at least not as much. I've taken quite a few pics with my phone and nobody gives a flying fuck. It's like gaming on a phone and on a handheld. Phone replacements like these seem either pointless or a bit enthusiast.

nigga, literally all those devices are digital, except for that watch. Truly analog setup would be something like a walkman, small analog camera and this watch, but this is just not very practicaly in TYOAL 2003+22. If you want a smart detox, just get yourself something like a hammer phone, as it has a phone + basic digital camera + audio recorder (on some models) and the watch. There is also a lot of decent, basic digital watches like casio F91W for example.

Great idea poorly executed. I agree with you OP but everyone's clowning on you hard and I don't blame them.

All you really need is a pen and paper, a multi tool, and if you insist on taking pictures a disposable film camera.
> maps?
Write on pen and paper before going out
> books?
Just read actual books at home. Grow your own library
> camera?
Unless you're a hobbyist just use film. If you are still wired for instant reward be a basic white bitch and get a polaroid camera. I only use cameras to capture very special occasions.
> music?
Just get familiar with your local radio stations and listen while driving. Walking around with earbuds is a bad idea
