Retired more or less. The OG Microsoft people were pretty crazy, the mix of instant millionaires and the raw barinpower (at that point they had genuises who had done every fucking thing in places like DEC, Atari you name it working in there) made for some pretty interesting people and events but I don't want to dox myself. That microsoft has been dead for a long time the main reason being the crash in 1999. All the smart people left Microsoft with their vested stock. What was left behind was pretty talentless. I think its hilarious that most of the codebase has clearly not been substantially rewritten in decades for things like some control panels. They never even managed to fix copying text from modal dialogue boxes.

The late 90s in tech was a level of sheer excess only matched by ancient Rome

Yeah, the mighty have fallen. I'm at MSFT right now and it feels like a sinking ship with all the layoffs and mass shifting of roles to India. I am just hoping I can save $2m asap before it completely implodes in the next few years so I can essentially retire too.

I don;t know anyone in there at all any more. I still have my old blue badge and a ship IT (the ones with the bill gates computer on every desk and every home message). The whole tech industry is in terminal decline and its pretty stagnant as well IMO.Cloud computing is a poor monetisation joke that has been taken too far and AI is just moores law catching up with neural net and learing algo stuff I saw in the 90s in university research to give us LLMs. The whole work you ass off and become a millionaire and the fact that there were a lot of people really passionate about tech made it a special place in the 90s but like I say, that is LONG gone. The entire tech inductry has turned into what mostly resembles scamming, what we called spyware or adware is now google, software as a service is just fucking awful. The whole thing is shit, there are no more IT guys, Fuck you don;lt even ship full sets of debugging symbls anymore. Fucked.

Nah, that was Satya’s signature contribution, moving away from Steve’s old-school “Windows everywhere” strategy and embracing cross-platform cloud services. MS today is much better for it than it was 15-20 years ago under Steve. Windows is a heap of flaming dogshit and the PC hardware industry is a walking corpse but Azure doesn’t seem half-bad.

I moved away from it ops and into dev, but I've worked in entra before..

What I hate most of all is it's web interface changing like constantly. It's like you've not opened any site like endpoint or exchange for a week, and changes have been made.

I relied upon powershell at the time, but that's no guarantee: msonline cmdlets stopped working, you need graph do do anything so it's like you need to post json to get anything done. It's bloody retarded imho.

So I got offered a job in dev (sap) and I took it. It's even more retarded and I potatoed hard, pay is better though and I'm not on call anymore

> Azure doesn’t seem half-bad
Entra is somewhat usable/tolerable.
Azure, the compute side is the only thing that made me want to kill myself after 10 years in cloud services, and I’m being generous.
AWS looks like fucking alien technology compared to Azure. I could write a book on everything wrong with Azue and what they do behind the scenes because as a government entity they have to give us the root causes of downtime.
