I understand how Python became the dominant scripting language and I prefer it over Ruby, Perl etc., but it is absolutely disgusting that it also became the go-to for general purpose development. Every bit as disgusting as backend JS, maybe more so.

TIOBE is a poor measurement of language usage. Proof: use eyes and think about it. I love the Unixy style of Perl, but there's no good reason to choose it over Python or Ruby.

I'm starting to think that they try to look for languages in need. It's the only thing that could make sense. Boomers are retiring and there are Perl and Delphi code bases left behind so there is a need to find people that can maintain those.
