I could see this having a valid use if its done well (no lag). It might make viewing more comfortable for some people. I think I could benefit from such a feature, my eyes have some smearing, so viewing a screen in the dark is not great for me. A content adaptive ambient light might be more effective than just statically lighting the room.

Still using my old panasonic plasma, but I think the mainboard just let go last night. If I have to replace ill either get a cheap tcl or maybe just treat myself to the largest monitor I can afford.

Beware of monitors. The new ones have "smart" features too.

There's the thing with some LG oleds, where they don't have separate speakers, but instead vibrate the panel itself, to project sound into the room.
"Pixel Sound" is what they market it as.

idk I feel like 3d monitor tech could have been pretty based for gaming but there was just no real software for it and you can't even buy shutter glasses anymore

I do have a TV with ambient backlight. Is it a gimmick? Sure. But it's a neat one. It optically enlarges the screen. And it also lights up the room so I'm not sitting in pitch black staring at a bright rectangle.
Philip's is the company who started using it first and has patented it I think. And their implementation is very advanced. Of course there is no lag. But you can also change how quickly/erratic the lights will change, or if the colors should blend into each other more. Also you can set your wall color, so that if you have a non-white wall the colors will still match the ones on the screen and not be tinted.

I remember when there were 4K TVs that died before any 4k content came out for it.
I asked the guy at the store and all the 4k TVs played some demo and that was it.
Maybe avitar was on 4k.
