What does /g/ think of pic related?
Do you recommend web based readers or installed ones?

what are you even going to subscribe to? genuine question.
>t. not following blogs
>t. not reading news (discredited propaganda every single time)
>t. not watching youtube video regularly
>t. not keeping a track on a github repo (github supports some rss for the main branch iirc)
>t. not into torrenting stuff and downloading archives (thus there's no need for regular updates on an upload)

Tech guide sites like How-To Geek. And tech news in general. It's just something to scroll through while on the toilet. And local news, stuff like traffic and weather reports.

I use a web-based RSS fetcher that runs on a VPS.

https://miniflux.app/

I do not read any other blogs/news sites at all, just the stuff I pull onto my miniflux instance.

I'm not sure what you mean by web based, do you mean the in-browser ones? Because sites like https://www.refdesk.com/ have actual RSS built into their website, but the downside is that feeds are limited by their selection and settings.

I use Thunderbird for my email and it has a built in RSS reader so I just use that

You just listed all of my usecases for RSS. Maybe you don't need it.

it's a nice way to check new videos on youtube
i don't use it for much else

I used to use it for 4chan and filter for certain keywords but that nigger hiro removed RSS support a few weeks ago

I use the one integrated in Vivaldi.

Both. I have Miniflux on my server which is used to cache articles and keep track or reading state. And then I use Lire as a client for MacOS and iOS, but there are other Miniflux/Fever compatible clients for other platforms.

I use Feedbin as a sync service for NetNewsWire and Unread
But the web-based thing is probably OK too

>I use Feedbin as a sync service for NetNewsWire and Unread
That sounds very convoluted.

I like it. Following TF2 game updates (e.g. once every six months nowadays) and using it as a replacement for YouTube subscriptions.

normie things. i listen to random twitch streams if i can digest them, play videya, draw stuff, read randomness on the internet. i could add radio to the mix, but i prefer downloading music i like.
i'm not even that old (25 y), i think there's just very little worth following in the current day and age. what there is should be archived on a scheduled basis, so i don't see a need for news subscription.
>>106113209
>local news
valid. unfortunately, my choice is between telegram, discord, whatsapp and a local site + mobile program which're owned by the government. no alternatives and no unification beyond them using a notification system.

valid.

i don't. but as a result, i'm closed off from the world, which makes me extremely narrow minded and oblivious. not knowing things does not make clever people, it makes "get off my lawn" npcs. so, there should be at least some variety. thus my question.

I use it for 90% of my internet consumption and it's saved me so much time and energy loading websites, scrolling, looking for new stuff etc. my client of choice is newsraft.

It's the ideal solution to having the functionality of YouTube subscriptions without having to have a Google account imo. You don't even need to visit the YouTube website at all to watch videos anymore if you set it up to open the links in mpv, or just copy-paste the links into a terminal with "mpv [pasted link]"

true but how do you filter out shorts? I fucking hate that shit. some niggers just spam shorts every single day of the week.

yeah but the full videos are informative

I'm not sure that you can. Last I looked into it, there was one RSS app, I don't even remember the name of it, that allowed for that, but it was both paid and Mac only so I said pass.

does the 4chan API still work? If so, it would be possible to build a gateway to RSS.

I use it for jewtube. I can add the channels I actually want to keep track of, and then pass the links to yt-dlp. Keeps me off of jewtube and away from doomscrolling.
Anonymous No.106117112 [Report]
Both are fine, I run a FreshRSS instance and read my feeds using Newsboat.

>>106114115
I also listen to some Twitch streams, I have RSS feeds for the channels I follow and play the streams with mpv. I don't even have a Twitch account lol.

Links for shorts usually have the "shorts" word in them, so you can filter based on that. Also some channels add "#shorts" to the titles, you can use that as well.

I would just like to state that openrss are fagets
I was pulling three feeds from them, one being their own changelog, with a refresh rate of 1 hour
they flagged my ip for abuse
fuck you ill do it myself

Huh, this is the first time I'm hearing about it. I'm not surprised, every "provides free RSS feeds for websites that don't have them" type site has been a disappointment in my experience.
