You don't need to keep it up to date. If you install Arch Linux in 2025 and never update it, it will work exactly the same in 2035.

>is up to date
>package system isn't overly complicated
>lets you install every software under the sun
>doesn't handhold the user
that's really all there is to it

Because the way Linux does things is retarded with regards to the entire package management system. In other distros, you're forced to use 2 year old perpetually outdated packages. At least with Arch you can actually use current stuff.

you are using arch correctly and should keep doing that.

a large amount of users have brand new hardware that isn't supported on distros that ship relatively older kernels. Arch is one of the sanest ways to have the most "up to date" software. openSUSE tw is a decent alternative and then fedora followed by ubuntu. Debian sid could work too but it's meant primarily for development. Most users will land on an arch based distro simply because they hear arch has worked for others, they feel like they won't be "cool" if they don't use it, steamdeck uses it, and a lot of "popular" people use it or recommend it.

This filters most of the userbase though.
