My laser printer is the most impressive piece of technology I own. The fact that a machine can take a blank piece of paper and a handful of black powder and create a permanent physical record that will last for thousands of years seems magical to me and way more impressive than anything that exists in the fake and gay digital world we live in now.

huh. for me, it's the exact opposite: I use my scanner to take paper and create a digital copy that I can search, index and backup elsewhere, so I can keep the original in a binder

Toner is basically plastic melted on the medium.
It lasts a long fucking time.

Why do zoomers always find the most inefficient and inconvenient way to do everything? A feed scanner is a million times easier and faster to use than taking pictures of pages with your phone. It's not even possible to take a picture with uniform lighting unless you build some kind of special document scanning rig with lights and a mount for your phone, and at that point you're just reinventing a shittier version of a scanner.

My Brother laser printer does batch scanning.
Just put my stack of documents in it and it scans them all automatically one by one.
Why would I ever want to go back to using a phone?

OCR isn't a destructive process, it just adds searchable text on top of the original image. If it's wrong it doesn't matter because you can still read the original. Taking a bad photo and then having AI "restore" it by guessing what it should look like when you have the original is pure retardation.

They're still not going to compare with a high DPI scanner.

For just having a digital copy of a basic text document, sure it'll do in a pinch, but you don't want to scan dozens of pages with graphs, color photos, and text all through a phone, it just wont be anywhere near as nice as getting those pages properly scanned.
