FUCK YOU CR BOX ANON
These things suck. These diy "air purifiers " are not a purifier. It is basically a simple filtration system for use in workshops to collect dust particles floating in the air from sanding or cutting wood. An "air purifier" isn't going to do that.
Anonymous No.106122263 [Report]
Idk I've heard they work well for wildfire smoke. Someone also said be careful that the fans don't heat up.

what are you expecting from an air purifier? filters mechanically remove dust particles and maybe add some activated carbon for some chemical filter. what else are you expecting?

hepa filters should do it. just get something that filters down to certain particle size

Reminder that for whatever reason, these things get lied about every time they're mentioned. Some variety of schizo will always post the most inane bullshit and try to shame people for building one over a premade.
Why this is the case, only they know. Seems like too small of a niche to send paid goons to besmirch it.
These things work, they're cheap and they look kinda shitty but that's up to the guy building it.

Why, it's smart.
13 meets the bare minimum hepa requirements but it's also not the max which is merv 15.
So every chink scum fuck is selling cheap fake filters as merv 15 and or hepa anything.
If you grab a merv 11-13 you generally get a real filter.
Anonymous No.106123924 [Report]
you can build inndependent particulate sensor and measure various size particles in air, turning on air purifier/filter does reduce particles in air.
whay did you wannt it to do?

supposing the fan has high static pressure and there's no air leaks and those are HEPA filters...why wouldn't it work?
Anonymous No.106124158 [Report]
No air purifier eliminates dust. They are meant to remove particles from the air stopping you from breathing them in. Stopping large particles from settling on surfaces is basically impossible.
Merv 13 filters are a meme. They suck at anything below 0.5 microns and the increases air flow doesn't make up for it.

>These things suck.
Yes, that is how they work.
Blowing would be less effective.
>These diy "air purifiers " are not a purifier.
No shit, they use MERV filters not HEPA filters. They succeed at what they were meant to do. Why is this a problem?
>It is basically a simple filtration system for use in workshops to collect dust particles floating in the air from sanding or cutting wood.
Yes, that is how MERV filters work. They can also filter larger particles (like pet dander), and some smaller particles (household dust and detritus). If you needed something crazy, like a UV light to kill bacteria, why didn't you buy that instead? What did you fucking expect? Fucking magic?
>An "air purifier" isn't going to do that.
Wrong. A true good air purifier WILL do that, and it will also do more. However, you would be an idiot to use full multi-stage HEPA filters in a workshop if all you need is to filter sawdust.

These things and even "real" air purifiers are not for that, they don't produce enough airflow to be able to move visible dust across the room

For that you have to have intake filters on a whole house ventillation system, and/or vacuum regularly
Anonymous No.106124689 [Report]
>>106122328
If by dust you mean large particles that are not light enough to float on their own, forget it. I built a DIY air purifier with a 592x592mm G4 filter and a 450mm industrial fan (box fans are not a thing in Poland) and while it does catch a lot of dust, it's impractical to keep it running 24/7. Even if it was running all the time, you'd still have to vacuum.

I also tried using an F7 filter (similar grade to MERV 13) but the increased resistance meant that it could no longer be used as a nigger-rigged dust collector when cleaning cabinets. Maybe M5 would be a good compromise, I don't know.

If the blades are well spaced apart it will never be able to generate any significant amount of static pressure so the load on the motor won't change much

Most household fans I've seen have sleeve bearings with oiled felt pads, just put some drops of oil once in a while and they will run forever

We moved to a new office and it has no window openings at all.
It has aircon but I don't think that's enough.

How can I measure the air quality, confirm that it's dogshit, then show it to my boss so we can spend money to fix it?
Anonymous No.106125694 [Report]
>>106125474
There are devices made to measure this shit.
Borrow one of these things Louis is using in this video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1OdI7A9_ek
What's funny about this video is the moment at 2:25 where he goes into a CVS and gets a pretty clean measurement. Not surprising since they have aid conditioning and a pharmacy in the back.

Not having windows actually allows for a cleaner office, if the air conditioning is working. Outside air is FULL of shit and recycled filtered HVAC is much cleaner. If it's moldy and not cared for, it can be bad, but if it's maintained it should be good.
