Except... That distro does support your old tech. It has XFCE available in the repos. You didn't even have to reinstall the OS, you could have just switched to a TTY and swapped out the packages right there.

Not only is this true, but it also isn't true for mainstream operating systems that aren't Linux. On Windows and Mac, you're fucked if the default graphics stack doesn't work on your old shitbox.
