use poppler if your computer is a potato from 2005
I don't read comics nor postscrip docs, but there you have zathura's cs and ps plugins in most distros repos

I use FBReader on Android. This is because it has a nice dark mode, and it can talk to my Calibre library so I don't need to mess around with cables or manually managing my ebooks.

Emacs is the best document viewer. I don't use anything else now because it has bookmarks and can handle all file types. Can also reference them directly in org-mode documents. I also read manga in emacs. It works by default of course but I wrote a small major mode to render and navigate through them similar to nov.el. Still waiting on it to be accepted in melpa/elpa though (going on 3 months).

Everything else pulls in a ton of dependencies or is not as good as was I get from emacs. I use gtk2 emacs and my config works over every OS the same. I even get dark mode natively for pdf files which was a pain to setup in anything else.

Whatever you do avoid calibre like the plague. It's inferior to emacs in every way for epubs and manga. It tries to pull in all manner of cancer like dbus for no reason. Truly horrible software.

can't give less fucks about Zathura, I use it because it opens epub through mupdf and Olular does it through poppler (atrocious for epub).
If I had sumatrapdf on linux I will not bother with zathura, still better than barebones mupdf.

Also to the fags who say zathura is lightweight, It uses more ram than Okular when reading pdfs (especially if you search for text in them).
