do I need to fiddle with a bunch of shit before getting it to work or is there a set of defaults that can get the system working before I decide to add or remove anything from the USE flags?

ive been waiting for a gentoo-based distro (or install script) that isn't complete dick. Calculate linux and funtoo are jokes. I think emerge/portage is a sick, but I refuse to read an entire wiki.
