why did other p2p protocols die out? all that’s left now is BitTorrent

They didn't. Services like DC++ and nicotine still exist. They just aren't as popular because torrents are so convenient.

Normies all got their walled garden smartphones that can’t do basic things like p2p file sharing ever since the iPhone 1 came out. Corporations then made it too convenient to use the Netflix and music app slop and turn them all into paypiggies.
>normies today couldn’t even operate a traditional computer, much less do p2p file sharing anymore.

You don't need more than 1 P2P protocol otherwise you dilute the network of every single competing protocol

They were good at something that people no longer want. Soulseek keeps the niche alive. It lacks one of the best features of KaZaA (downloading the same file from multiple people torrent style) but it's fine. People who just want single songs from albums download them from me on Soulseek even though I am sharing full albums. It existed when KaZaA (FastTrack) and Limewire (Gnutella) were dominant and had it's own niche for people looking for obscure music, full albums, etc. Now it serves both.

I don't think I made this totally clear but I want to say this. Most people downloading from me are downloading full albums. But I still get people downloading single tracks from popular hit albums. They are just a tiny percent of the download requests I get, like maybe 5%. So there are still people out here doing things the old fashioned way. Soulseek serves this tiny niche.

>be normalfags
>use Gnutella/FastTrack
>"IT'S ALL A SPOOKY VIRUS!!!"
>instead of getting superior copies for free keep re-paying over and over again for the same "remastered" movie or audio file

Fast forward til today:
>be normalfag
>"I don't want to leak my ip!!!"
>pay some fly-by-night chink/pajeet $120 a year for a "VPN" (proxy server hosted on VPS they rented for $1)
>"The public torrents have zero seeds! They might be spooky virus! RIAA mafia might see my ip anyway!!"
>suck some janny's cock to join "private" tracker
>be too retarded to know how to ghost leech
>be too retarded to realize there is nothing they can do to actually track your "ratio"
>pay some chink/pajeet big money yearly to get "seedbox"
>"race" other normalfags to be the first to download some shit that came out 2 weeks ago on USENET
>come to /g/ to gloat about it and cope about the fact that you'll never get into the real scene

Extra points:
>be turbo normalfag
>"Torrents are a legal risk!"
>pay some chink/pajeet $15 a month to access a remote server that downloads torrents for you
>stream them to your shitty locked down consumer devices
>go to reddit to gloat about it and shill it in the hopes that chink will give you $1 discount for files you could have gotten for free anyway

p2p is garbage now because of normalfags. They will take any technology written out of love and given away for free and attempt to monetize it somehow. Then they'll claim anyone that says what they're doing is retarded is
>just a hater!

For some reason they've been on the internet for over 20 years now ruining everything and still haven't discovered things like usenet and xdcc bots on irc. I guess we should be thankful that they've only ruined the web and a few related things like torrent trackers. They don't understand how any of this shit works so it's easy to trick them. They did the same thing with software. Instead of learning how to post diffs to mailing lists they use github.

The torrent protocol is impossible to make "private". There is nothing anyone can do to prevent you from connecting to peers in the swarm and leeching all you want. That's kind of how it works.

These faggots took a protocol designed to be censorship resistant and attempted to lock it down and make a profit from it. The tracker has NOTHING to do with the swarm and what happens within it. All the tracker does is query the peers for stats. There is no way to make a torrent truly "private" and nothing stops anyone from tracking each and every peer within a swarm. It's a bunch of lies.

They're so butthurt about people ghostleeching through that they're attempting to make a new version of the torrent protocol to make the above things possible. But no one is paying attention to their yammering because none of those faggots can into code and no one involved with the torrent protocol wants to change it. Since it's already perfect.

The entire point of the torrent protocol was to take a burden off distro. By attempting to make it "private" they've missed the entire point. Also these fags demand the dox of all their users and b& any account that attempts to do something like download from another IP address. So you're retarded if you're on them in the first place. Considering they're down stream from the actual scene where real content is always released first (no one gives a fuck about your shitty rip that isn't even done correctly. Anyone serious and doing things correctly would release to the proper scene first. Considering you get actual benefits from it).

>>106134129
Yeah and they shouldn't have been using the computer in the first place if they're that stupid. They are the same people that have ruined every last hobby and most of the internet.

Well I did infect my family computer with malware when I was inexperienced and stupid. Trial by fire. I got it from links on IRC rather than p2p. Since I became quite adept at dealing with pirated software and managing the PC I basically became the household sysadmin. I knew about that kind of stuff so I set the p2p application being used on our PC to hide exe files. So while I was smart enough not to download them myself my dad or my sister would never see them at all. They could download all the songs they wanted then burn CDs with the cracked copy of Nero I installed.

You will never get access to the ftp server. Go back to your gay "general" (discord server thread) for your gay "private tracker" (that we advertise here daily).

You know why you'll never get into the real scene? Because snitches aren't allowed. The only reason I even talk about it here is to combat the massive faggotry people like you are spreading. Since you hook in clueless newfags and waste their time.

Never suck someone's cock on the internet for access to warez. It's fucking pathetic. We give it away for free because it's the right thing to do. Data should be free. Anyone that attempts to profit from it or turn access to it into some gay little fag club deserves to be roped. They're the worst kind of person.

I'm sick of seeing all the software and protocols I helped create be used for evil and ruined by faggots. I have a right to be mad about it. I didn't make it so some fag on discord could enlarge his ego by gloating about having to access to something that shouldn't exist in the first place. Private trackers aren't even a new concept. The first one was created about 6 months after we released the protocol for the first time. It was run off the internet by both the copyright mafia and the people releasing warez. That should give you an idea about how hated such people are.

I already had this discussion with you. I started a scene group when I was 15. I first affiled a shitty 100mbit colo site, then a 20mbit site in .si then went from there. At least it wasn't bbb.se lmao. I could fill a whole thread with scene stories. The times where I wasn't in groups and I got my friend to invite me into #dupecheck and I larped like I was in major groups when I was 13? Good times. I could say a lot more but maybe I'll join again so I don't want to connect myself to specific groups or activities, because people ask about that when you get involved with them.

Bittorrent is kind of decentralized but not really. It doesn't require super seeds, search nodes, servers and all the other garbage the old P2P networks did.

how do you get slskd to scale with large libraries? I have a 16 core xeon processor with a 5x10TB raid5, but it takes almost two days to start and be done scanning. Does it not create a database for faster future access? I feel like nicotine+ scales way better with large collections, to the point where I have to use it instead of slskd which makes things easier on remote

I remember all the weird gnutella clients. BearShare, Xolox, WinMX, Limewire, Shareaza. Never used Napster or the "real" Kazaa (but used k++). I also remember some shit my room mate used called Ares. But I just watch whatever's available on Youtube these days, if it's not on Youtube its not worth watching.
