is it possible to use dna as a storage medium for archival purposes? if we're gonna have increasing populations on the globe, shouldn't they be put to good use by acting as walking datacenter nodes? in exchange they could be allowed to exist.

>is it possible to use dna as a storage medium
yes, in theory
>for archival purposes
if is possible to simulate or recreate the DNA replication action in order to periodically regenerate DNA, might be possible for long term data storage
>walking datacenter nods
No. It will be a non-descript blob of organic material. Exposure to UV among others will corrupt data. Nor can you genetically modify living beings sufficiently enough to store sufficient amounts of data or they will stop living.
>in exchange they could be allowed to exist.
just rope already nazi

DNA accumulates errors every time it's copied.

can't you prevent that by doing it really fast so the error can't keep up?

electronic transmissions aren't perfect either, that's why error correcting codes exists. Reed-Solomon coding for example
