but that's pretty much it, as a tourist you don't need JP, japanese though anime is a means not a cause (anime is not better in JP, but you can learn through anime I guess if you are willing to suffer through barely understanding the language and pausing when you NEED to know), video games can be OCR'd, etc.
Also C++ is a masochistic programming language, Japanese is also a masochistic language, it's not uncommon for C++ developers to learn Japanese once C++ becomes too easy.

There's nothing Japanese that isn't cringe, retarded or altogether disgusting, with the honorable exceptions of soroban and traditional architecture, so virtually zero value in being able to communicate with the yellow man.

C++ on the other hand, is what I'd call "useful garbage", so you'd get better leverage on this side of the river, but don't touch it before first building a good C/assembly foundation.

I recommend neither. Japanese is basically impossible to learn. And whilst c++ is possible, it should be avoided unless you absolutely need it.

C++ is C with extra features, this is the use case. Programming C can become exhausting due to severe lack of features. And if you ask why program C, that is because every other language is a second class citizen forced to utilize hideous FFI to interact with other software.
