The undisputed champion is probably the font from mobaxtermโ€”โ€œMobafontโ€ which appears to be a hacked version of Appleโ€™s Menlo.
I have often used IBMโ€™s โ€œplexโ€ font as well.
When slumming, I make due with a hacked GNU Unifontโ€ฆ very consistent.
Iโ€™ve started using using more symbols in general purpose code nowadays, returning the profession to a branch of mathematics.

I have a bad taste in fonts, because I'm ready to ignore an atrocious 4 if the font's fat enough. I've also shifted the code you've posted, now it's worse. You're welcome.

Go-mono. Pleasant and very legible despite being serif. Shitskins hate it for some reason.

I was tinkering with Iosevka and Sarasa combination, and then after browsing similar fonts, I realized that Liberation Sans/Serif/Mono is the simplest font I can just install via common official default repos and it has everything. It also has that "Windows 7 Segoe UI" thing going on at 9pt that i like. It is perfect compromise.

You know what does? Proper lighting - i.e. dim backlight, screen what has its brightness turned WAY down and proper contrast ratio between the font and background. And regular breaks. Ergonomy.
Most people have monitors so bright that they might be staring at the sun..

Contrast needs to be balanced in such way that it's somewhere in the middle - not bright letters on black background but something what has 20/50 ratio - but still clearly readable within your own particular lighting setup...
