On a full featured laptop, I need to see:
USB-A, USB-C, ethernet, and HDMI.
Bonus points for auxiliary audio, and big bonus points for SD card slot. I'm sure if someone was more audio focused an aux port would be necessary, and a photographer would probably require an SD card slot.
Anyway don't buy iShit and you won't have this issue.

Thunderbolt 3 can do literally everything all of those ports can do simultaneously, and on the 2016-2019 MacBooks you get four (4) of them. On the 2020 and later MacBooks you get 3 and a couple of the dedicated ports back because people complained so much but imo this is one of the things they shouldn't have gone back on.
More ≠ better.

Aside from ethernet for SNAFU what ports are needed on modern mbp? You get 3 TB5 with absurd data transfer speed, dedicated charging slot, minijack, hdmi 2.1 and even an SD card slot for some reason (which I use as slow-but-it-works-fine external storage)

what innovation do you want out of a fucking laptop design? An extensible dildo?
If anything the rumored innovations (muh push for more portability on pro, muh oled) made me buy a future-proof m4 a few months ago due to the utter clusterfuck that were the chicklet keyboards, the weird touchbar and so on in the past. The current form factor is pretty much perfect outside of maybe lacking a “del” key and things that I’d like to have but won’t actually happen, like thinkpad’s nipple mouse or m.2 slot for expandable storage
