Elon said Teslas would be able to do this sometime back around 2020. Still not there.

>want to get into your car at 2 AM
>walk down to garage
>remember
>oh right. shit.
>pull out phone
>summon vehicle
>wait 20 minutes for car to appear
>and that's assuming you have access to the app
yeah sounds great

What if instead of EVs driving themselves to charging stations, we just had them follow fixed paths on a network, like on a tracks or something, so they wouldn’t even need to navigate traffic or anything? And then, instead of stopping to charge, they could just get their power from above, like from an overhead cable system that connects through some kind of arm or pole. That way, they could be continuously powered while moving.

To make it efficient, we could link multiple EVs together so they share propulsion and reduce drag. They’d all leave and arrive at set locations at predictable times, so no one would have to worry about charging or parking at all. And if we put designated stops along the route, people could just hop on and off instead of everyone owning their own EV.

Honestly, if we did that, we wouldn’t even need self-driving technology. Just a single operator could handle the whole thing. Way more efficient.

sounds like a good idea, but there'd be only so many places where it could stop, and you'd need some other way to get to said stops.

perhaps you could have like a smaller version of that concept that does run on roads, just to make up the gaps, idk

As opposed to waiting 30 minutes for it to charge at the station every single day?
