How you not just kill yourself at that point? Hell might be a better fate than this.

DBAs are like the objectively most important people at most companies but most don't even realize it

It's not that bad if you're dealing with a well designed schema.

I started out in a SaaS company with a lot of SQL monkeys (DBAs, database developers (mostly reports and/or stored procedures), data architects (building and operating data warehouses/marts/lakes/etc and ETL processes). Now 10 or so years later I moved into a pure software development/devops/SRE direction and you know what? I gotta say it doesn't seem so bad to do that. There's a whole lot of value you can deliver with just your business logic for lack of a better term (SQL) and very little boilerplate code. By contrast think of all the shit you have to write and think about just to create a simple CRUD API and keep it running in production.

the job is simply a means to an end, that end being money
the money is (very?) good
outside of work is where all the dumb and fun shit happens

And because of that you get no praise, no accolades, no acknowledgement, no recognition
Which all result in no pay rises, no promotions, and being the first on the chopping block when layoffs occur
Meanwhile they'll keep the web monkeys because they used the CEOs favourite shade of green

Most SQL queries written by people are more complicated than javacode. Really it boils down to seeing huge mathematical expression of a series of set definitions and set operators
