IDM is the best download manager out there though. It's paid and proprietary, but whatever, it's easy to crack if you know where to look... for now.

And it does have important use cases in increasing download speed significantly, pausing and resuming downloads and conveniently downloading videos.

And it is significantly inferior, yes. I've tested extensively. They even bundle adware with the regular installer. But that's not the reason why it is inferior, it might not even be in the top 5 reasons.

If you mean that IDM looks dated, there are skins for it, even default ones, that make it look more modern.

It was popular when everyone was using internet explorer which didn't allow pausing downloads, now I don't know anymore

Have been using it for 15 years now, and nothing else I tried ever compares to it, honestly IDM is the best DM ever.
Skins don't matter as long as it stays simple, fast, none-bloated and doing what it's supposed to do.

Then make sure to not blindly accept the adware, fuck, it ain't hard.

Makes no difference, it installs it even if you uncheck it in the installer. Don't get me wrong, they do offer an adware-free installer on their forum. But it is still very scummy. Again, I've tested this stuff because anons tend to really like JDownloader and I wanted to like it as well.

It's very rare but I experienced downloading archives/isos on chrome/firefox that ended up being broken or corrupted.
Never happened on IDM, not even once for years.

People use what they want to use and what works for them. I personally find JDownloader to be a nice experience and thoroughly featureful. I'm not going to spend time "testing" a closed source and cracked EXE from some random person just because somebody else says it's better.

That's fine, whatever works. I've had plenty of issues with JDownloader not working properly, the adware thing is a minor issue by comparison.

I've got download manager fatigue after trying several from a list someone compiled on R*ddit with no success, so excuse me if I'm skeptical. Apparently some even newer ones came out since then, I might try them later.

for when websites limit your download speed, but don't limit how many connections you can have per ip address (most of the time)
