Why does nothing change in tech anymore? I remember we used to get new programs every year and things would just die and people moved on.

Is it zoomers? It seems like they all just use the same 5 apps endlessly.

It's a combination of people being attention/money whores now combined with the fact that everyone just shits out "web apps" in an attempt to monetize and gather meta data.

Unironically this. Until you actually try vibecoding, you don't realize it is literally like drugs. It shits out code and says "here, just try it" so you try it, without any effort to read it first and make sense of it, cos man, it feels good to just be making progress and commiting stuff, much productivity. Then of course after a few trips like that, I have no idea what the hell is going on with my code. And I can code. Imagine what it does to a brain that barely learned how to use if-else and loops.

Bullshit. Nobody cared back then, still nobody does now despite things having gotten substantially worse.

Am I supposed to be using various different programs? I'm fine with what I have since they work for me so I have no reason to use anything else beyond just trying them out.

Also, the complaint of "nothing changing" can be remedied by modifying your existing programs. Use Shitcord and don't like how bland it is by itself? Use one of the many client modifcations and alternative clients that exist. It shouldn't be this hard to make this shit interesting again.

Because modern tech isn't about freedom or innovation, it's about controlling others or leasing services for money.

If you have a pile of needles, it's easy to find a needle. When you dump haystack after haystack on top of the pile of needles, they become increasingly difficult to find, even if the number of needles increase.
Now instead of needles, imagine anything good, and instead of haystacks, endless floods of poo. That's what we're getting now. Doesn't matter how many good things there are, even if the number is increasing, if it's all covered in poo.

Pretty much every product in human history starts off with wild and wacky designs when it's new but then as the money comes consolidates down a couple of designs.

We have this discussion every week, even twice a day at times. The answer remains the same:
