A few years. I got a job with actually decent money and now I'm unemployed again even with a masters degree and cert. It was definitely easier back then.

First job was in highschool testing computer software for bugs, then eventually doing external phone support for that same software. Graduated with associate in network admin and had a job about 6 months later doing level 1 help desk for a high school. 2 years after that was an actual network admin. The year was 2012 when I graduated so none of this information is particularly relevant today because everything sucks everywhere.

Anons have probably heard this a million times but Im getting my network+ and security+ then working on a virtualbox portfolio to get a job in IT. as far as I'm aware this should land me a job quickly enough.
I hate being part of the normie sphere. I hate normalfaggot jobs. Let me sit at a computer and answer tech problems.

Had a friend's dad who didn't know squat about IT get hired working at a stock buying firm replacing GPUs and basic HD stuff making like $100k in about 05. He came home with a literal garbage bag of gpus, they were only a generation old. He pulled them from the dumpster and I think 90% of them still worked since they were chucked in there. Everyone in our friend group got some major upgrade from it, was wild.

I had a professor tel a story of a guy who was supposed to bring like 20 top of the line laptops to be disposed of, but got rear-ended and completely totalled in an accident on the way with the laptops in the back.
Do the gym claimed the laptops were I working order before the accident and made a claim. The insurance reimbursed the guy with all new laptops.

>Administrator took about two years

Way longer than it should have been. I’m debt free now with more money to my name than I ever owed. My net worth has increased a quarter million the past 7 years and life is going to keep getting better.

I already have net+/sec+/a+. You need a ccnp and isc2 plus a azure/aws administrator nowdays to do anything but helldesk. And somehow most companies are still asking for msp despite that being discontinued in 2019 and it not existing anymore.

It's stupid as a society that this is how things work, but it does make sense from an insurance company perspective when they run the risk of being taken to court if they deem a laptop good and it later fails as a result of the accident. I believe this story. Retardo world.

Yep, MSPs or VARs. I worked as a Cisco wireless engineering consultant for a VAR, the role was cush and the pay was better than the rest, but it was all so retarded. I wished for a while to go independent, but since I don't get vendor discounts, I can't compete. Come in and service older systems? Good luck, I'll be a netgear admin not making more than $25 to fix grandpa's modem. The whole tech industry is designed to put the little guy out of business.

Networking feels like a big club where you need experience to get experience and that's true, so do whatever you have to in order to get one of the network guys to let you hold the screw driver while he watches. Heck, walk in there and beg them to let you come in after hours with them to hold the back of the switch up while they mount it. I never would have turn a less experienced member down if they said they'd do the manual labor for me.

Of course the world is much more retarded now than when I was coming up, so maybe it is all impossible and no amount of shoe shining the senior guys will get you an ounce of experience...

My helldesk is for msps specifically and came with a helldesk/network tech i title. In reality all I do is tell boomers to unplug their router/stb/injector/ont/modem/tv/computer and plug it back in, tell boomers which port number and server name to use in microsoft outlook or ifag mail, or tell them to stop causing rogue dhcp because they plugged a router into a router in a loop. I hate boomers so much it's unreal and this is what they should have plus a crt plugged in with coax to the wall with only basic cable with a total of 5 channels; sportsball 1, insp (westerns), lifetime, fox news, and sportsball 2. They aren't competent enough to have anything more than this and should have a cowbell tied around their necks at all time. Telcos keep taking away traditional stbs and giving them firesticks with an app for live television and they simply cannot handle it. They also need a single landline phone with a wire and no buttons but the numbers and should not have a cell phone or a tablet or a computer.
