Rust's official library website (lib.rs) is redirecting people to malicious websites when searching "bad" terms like "twitter" or "x" to protest them.
You can't make this shit up if you wanted to. A language that's supposed to be focused on security redirecting people to malicious sites is crazy
This is what you get for using software written by insane people.

>>106151163 (OP)Rust's official library site is crates.io. Also, after checking lib.rs, it appears that searching for "twitter" redirects to a wired article. No attempt was made by wired to exploit a JavaScript vulnerability in Firefox or otherwise send me malware, therefore it is not a malicious website.
the "libs.rs" developer is a good guy. we had some shared interests about ecosystem-wide data back when it was still early days. crate discoverability and the possible need for human (subjective) curation was a hot topic at the time. i was a hard-line objectivist in the face of subjectivists who wanted to create pseudo std extension crates re-exporting a group of popular crates from crates.io.
the "lib.rs" guy sort of combined both approaches. he employed objective measuring, then followed it with his human subjective curation to compensate for limitations in objective scoring, and created a useful site out of this.
most of us lost interest in such matters a long time ago as the ecosystem started to mature and good crates started to become well-known. std extensions never gained traction (WE WON!). but this guy is still maintaining an interest all these years later. kudos to him.
i heard he clashed with some people in the rust community at some point because he hated the cryptocurrency/blockchain/smart contracts/... part of the ecosystem because he thinks their "scams" are hurting people in real life. so he either 404ed their crates, or left "scam" warnings about them, or both at different times. i don't remember.
doing this with twitter/X is weird though. he is free to "take a stance" or "educate" or whatever in his own space. but, unlike "crypto scammers", it's not like X is responsible for a good chuck of activity in crates.io!

Searching twitter on that UNOFFICIAL website just redirects you to an article about pic related.
searching x doesn't even redirect you.
