There’s a ton of Apple shilling on this board, and I fell for it and I got an M4 MacBook Air, poverty spec - no upgrades.
I want to take care of this thing so it lasts as long as possible - if it breaks, I’m screwed and will have to crawl back to using FREE SOFTWARE FOR POOR PEOPLE™.

Here are my questions so spoon feed me NOW:
Is it safe to pirate AlDente Pro to preserve battery health? I’m plugged in 90% of the time and can’t afford to wear out the battery.

Can I block it from phoning home with Little Snitch (also pirated lol), or should I just use LuLu since it's free and open source?

What do I need to learn if I want to help port Linux to the M4 later? (Apart from C and aarch64 asm)

Does high swap usage still brick the SSD, if so how do I disable swap?

Also, is the display connector tearing issue still a problem if you open the screen more than 90 degrees? Or is that just Intel/early M-series MBA cope?

>AlDente Pro
just use the free version. i use it, its perfectly fine.
same with lulu and littlesnitch, if the free software works, just use it, why bother.

>Does high swap usage still brick the SSD, if so how do I disable swap?
It's an SSD, it obviously will in the future. Literally just use google for it how to disable it

>is worried about SSD lifespan
>buys a pisspoor 16gig version with basically no storage because le apple

it won't release this year, at the very least not the Air (which released in 2025)
M5 is rumored to only release at the end of the year on MBPs and is expected to be a mild generational improvement over the M4

Apple is so far ahead that an M4 or M5 would still be really good.

Never heard of it, seems redundant software, macOS already does battery optimalization itself, from taking a look at their site aldente is a subscription service, my assumption some features might work some won't.

For Little Snitch, I would suggest paying for it since you are basically giving it personal access to your network and who know if the pirate version is doing some sketchy things in the background.

Command + Q to force quit apps. I'm used to programs on Windows actually closing when you press the X on the corner, but the little red dot doesn't close anything. it hides it, but the app or program continues running the background to encourage ease of multitasking.
careful when Command + Q when running multiple instances of the same program because it will close all instances of the same program (if you have two different safari windows, etc)

What in the fuck, that was ever an actual thing? More than 90 deg angle on an open laptop is like completely standard usage, it's utterly insane if they fucked something like that up.

Don't need it, it has a built in feature that uses machine learning to decide when to keep your battery at 80 and charge it to 100 before it thinks you will unplug it. However I plan on using it plugged in a significant amount of time despite it being a laptop so I was wondering if pirating AlDente Pro is worth it for the sailing feature which charged and discharges the battery between 75 and 80 so I can maximise battery health, the free version only supports limiting battery to 80 so I have to manually un-plug it once it gets to 80 and manually replug it once it reaches 70-75

First, don't bother asking about apple on this board, it brings out the schizos. You will get bad and/or malicious advice from the low-functioning sociopaths that use this board. You are better off asking any halfway decent AI if you have questions or need advice.

You don't need aldente. Macs have built in battery saver functionality. Don't worry about the ssd, 16 gigs of ram is plenty.

Macs aren't tinkertranny machines. Use it for work and stop worrying about minmaxing lifetime with a bunch of third party crap. None of it will improve your machine functionality and it will probably make your experience worse and cause problems at some point. Its bloat.

Never even heard of this. Looks like a power management software, which macOS already does. Unnecessary and unnecessary risk trying to pirate it.

>Little Snitch
Why do people even bother with this software in 2025? It was a midwit filter when its icon was a propellor hat and it continues to be useless. If you configured your network even somewhat correctly and use the firewall built into macOS you are wasting your time trolling around your network for "intruders". Actually, this might be of benefit to you considering all the software you're pirating LOL. Might actually find someone!

AlDente Pro has a feature called sailing which keeps the battery charging and discharging between 75 and 80% (configurable) which is better for the battery, I am just using the free version now, and Little Snitch was optional to block the cracked AlDente Pro from internet so that the crack works, if you translated the russian in OP pic it says use "LS" or the hosts file to do that.

I only wanted to disable swap if it still leads to the SSD dying early which is what some anons on this board claim and now that I actually have a Mac I want to know if that still applies and if it does should I disable swap to stop this from happening.

I got $1000 of computing for $350, I also want to port Linux to the M4

no need for the sailing feature at all. as i said previously, i just use the free version an it's enough. 14" m3 pro in my case, literally my battery cycle count is 19 after owning it for 1.5 years.
yes, i use it 95% of the time in one room, however whenever I have to travel for longer than half a day, i take the mac with me and it's cycle count is that low anyway.

also, as others pointed out, if you want to pirate something, then software like littlesnitch is literally the worst possible thing to pirate, no matter what OS you are using.

as for swap, idk, i havent disabled it, but i heard it can allegedly fuck up performance really hard on macos. however, don't take on me whether this is true or not, logically thinking about it, probably something in between. i bought 36gb/1tb version for literally the reason of being afraid of excessive swap usage and im still at 130tbw already anyway from heavy swap usage. while for my 1tb it means im at 4% used according to smartctl, i dont think macs like in case of >>106155276 will last long enough to be sold or be passed down to someone in family. literally just launching a fucking browser to do some work eats almost 30gbs in my case, and you need to remember that it's unified memory so there will be some part of it reserved for the gpu.

>>106165330
