What is the reason why engineers leave companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, or Apple? Is the work environment as shitty as portrayed online?

They leave them for bigger companies for better pay. Sometimes smaller companies to get treated like a god there.

The culture at those companies tend to be pretty bad. The companies know most techies want to have a FAGMAN on their resume so the company can get away with abusing them. Similar to how game companies are terrible to work for.
Like the other anons mentioned, the purpose of going FAGMAN is to either use it as leverage for career ladder climbing or as a token of tech godhood for a cushy low pressure job at some non-tech company.
