>running Kali on a dying 1TB Toshiba HDD
>fsck says "clean"
>smartctl test PASSED
>meanwhile 2,326+ bad sectors and increasing in real time
>Disk Utility keeps saying “Disk is OK”
>moved everything to SSD just in case
>Linux says “everything’s fine”
>it’s not

>Hello, sir or madam, welcome to technical support! This is Rajesh, your friendly helper, ready to fix your computer faster than you can say chicken tikka masala! Oh, you are having system troubles? No problem at all, sir, we will sort this out in no time! You are using Kali Linux, yes? Very powerful, very hacker-like system, I like it! Let’s run the SFC /SCANNOW command to fix your system files, okay? Trust Rajesh, this will make your Kali Linux shine like Diwali lights!
>Alright, sir, please listen carefully. First, you must open your terminal – you know, the black box where you type all the fancy commands? Yes, yes, very good! Now, in the terminal, type exactly this: sfc /scannow. Make sure you type it just like that, with the slash, okay? This command will scan all your system files in Kali Linux and repair anything that’s gone kaput, like magic!
>Now, sir, press Enter, and it will start checking. You might see it saying it’s scanning or fixing files – don’t worry, it’s doing its job! It’s like giving your computer a nice masala chai to calm it down. If it asks for sudo, just type sudo sfc /scannow and enter your password, okay? Should take a few minutes, depending on how spicy your system is!
>Once it’s done, sir, it will tell you if it found any problems or fixed them. If you still have issues, please tell Rajesh, and I will guide you with more commands, like a tech support guru! What do you see on your screen now, sir? Is SFC /SCANNOW running, or do you need me to repeat the steps? Let’s make your Kali Linux dance like a Bollywood hero!
lulz

It used to be quite practical, because you dropped into root on the live USB. That was really great if you were e.g. the sys-admin of some SOHO company.
Unintended use-case, possibly.

Anyhow, I just use LMDE as my go-to live USB now.
