What does /g/ think of self hosting everything even if it seems retarded?

Think about it; Why dox yourself to Google just to get an email address when you can just self host your own mail server?
Why give Discord your phone number when you can just self host XMPP and Mumble?
Why use social media when you can make your own website and forum?
Why play on Steam when you can NOT opt into the privacy violating DRM platform??

>whos gonna use my shit????
Anyone who believes in having a vast and open Internet and isn't afraid to leave the Bubble of Google.
Minecraft servers, especially cracked ones are a very good example of this, along with Xonotic and others. Steam is a proprietary platform that has declined in performance, optimization and overall quality when it comes to its client, but it is heiled as the backbone of Linux because of Proton, which is difficult to use on its own without complying with the Steam and their TOS.

Is this not a good approach to the internet? What does /g/ think of websites that do that such as pic rel?

>we have /hsg/ retard
/hsg/ has consisted of reddit-tier retards who do nothing but talk and/or complain about their hardware working or not working instead of the actual self hosting part.

Feel free to post about your self hosting experiences, shit you self host, shit people you know self host, or self hosted sites and services in general.

Still relatively new to this stuff, I have requested the skills of a sys engineer with 20 years of experience, hope they can enlighten me to security policy, data management, networking, the lot.

I know nothing about the cyberix network either

nah, don't feel the need to do that sort of thing. there is already a service for that. most of the normalfags in my life just get normal copies of Windows and auth them the normal way
