Large data providers can't actually provide all users with unique retrievals. That's why theu don't use Oracle.

"the algorithm" 's purpose is to keep you in Plato's Cave - buy for financial reasons (the men in Plato's cave typically are chained slaves). the financial reason is serving a stream (one to many) is vastly easier.

what the algorithm does is it tries to hack your mind into you bahaviorally staying on the "local channels" (there is also regionalization).
this is why users will find themselves garnering bespoke attention from yt /x for being very long tail, they manually have to see if you are a scraper bot or not.

anyway, the dream:
>join the conversation

the reality:
>view/read slop (sticky content) because computers and networks are SLOW.

an equal portion of freedom of speech is freedom of reach. in thr soviet union you were free to curse Khrushchev in the shower.

we aren't free.

x/yt are just TEEEVEEE

I treat youtube like a TV, but I fourchan is the closest I get to interacting with the world in a social way. I only clicked on your discussion because Many to Many didn't make sense and I wanted to know what the heck you were talking about. Perhaps you mean Much to Many? Anyhoo, the end is nigh.

to be clear about what yt, x, fb can't do - are incapable of

they can't map their concurrent userbase to totally random records (eg videos, posts, whatwver the content).

it's not within their capability. it's a caching stage and storage retrieval problem.

i have experienced it myself, trying to play some long tail videos. stuttering 720p playback (meanwhile i can run two 4k videos of slop off yt). this happens less, so i guess they changed the steucture. or maybe i have sloppier tastes now. they still have to have tiered data storage levels.

in database design this is a basic pattern. a many to many is a relationship which implies an associative entity. ie a table between the two. say

many USER watch many VIDEO

so the WATCH table had user_id and video_id. and potentially is as big as the product of them.

Many retards disparage 4chan and call it dead. This is the only social media site that doesn't use an algorithm, so this place is still at the top of the pile of shit that is the internet.

What I hate most about twitter and Reddit interactions is that all replies are threaded. So if you have 2 faggots replying to you, you need to have seperate replies for each faggot rather than just chain replying like you can here.
It's so cancerous. It makes me not want to comment. It's why most replies to shit are passive aggressive and dismissive. Basically everyone signals that what they're saying is absolute and any replies are meaningless. Twitter is nothing but the sassiest shit flinging. Reddit is horrible because the upvote system is so performative.

that's because you tied to an username and you risk losing it if you fall out of line

it's so cancerous how they would use bots to stalk you. i was trying to post on r klingon and was immediately given notice by a main member I was unwelcome lol

It's funny because it's for the best to ditch the slop wagons.

I think what you're saying is that it pre-calculates its feed.

It's not that the user hits the yt home page and then it figures out what to show you on the fly. It already calculated everything and it was waiting for you to arrive to show you what it had figured out. Imagine a nightly batch job where it pre-calculates a list of suggestions for every user, not saying it does this exactly, but something like that. Now, is this optimisation really a bad thing? Well, it indicates that the "algorithm" isn't necessary very responsive, it needs time to adjust. We could say it's inert to influence from user behaviour. But the user conditioning effect, the Plato's cave where the user always sees the same thing so they develop a preference for what the algorithm shows them, a self-reinforcing effect, that's there whether or not the algorithm updates on a nightly or real-time basis. So, I don't think OP's post really says anything useful or anything we didn't already know. Maybe OP is like a non-responsive algorithm, continually spitting out pre-digested pap and promoting it as if it were interesting.

the point is that it is impossible to serve videos ai KNOWS users want, because it would be too many cold storage videos at once. the reason they push sticky slop is it's cheaper, really more like infinity unaffordable for what you REALLY want.

you need both tables, surely. idk that sql type

we don't know their deep retrieval algo, but remember they did away with hashtags.

why?

i say they couldn't handle so many as were used. each is like an irc chatroom, but where every user can join and insta post
