They do generate different but usually more interesting and slightly higher quality gens compared to genning with the usual beta at equivalent steps though, at least for my prompts, for regular beta going above 35 steps never seems to be worth basically

I think it's not worth using them given the 50% speed hit unless you already generated a crap ton of images with a prompt u like and then just want to switch it up a little and get different good images without touching the prompt or anything else

>>106168032
Thats what i found good too although i havent tested most of the rest, 30 steps for those two seems good for my images

It's also ironic how a "communist dictatorship" offers more technological freedom to its people (both in regards to publicly sharing weights, papers, allowing researchers to train on anything etc) than the so-called democracies, with the US jewing out and paywalling everything and making scientific progress a trade secret, and Europe pulling a literal 1984 Orwellian dystopia on people requiring them to share their faces to do basic online activities such as gaming and fapping while also essentially banning any serious AI developments

Then look at your old gens and compare it with anything new. It's a huge difference in model capabilities.

AI image gen improved a lot but why I think people feel it didn't change too much is because you are still required to do the same if not more things than you did with sd 1.4/1.5 in a1111.
The big change that will transition us to a whole new pardigm is text2edit / good natively multimodal llm/image models where you don't have to fuck around as much with doing everything manually but instead just saying to a model what you want. R1 delayed companies from releasing the latter but qwen image model looks like it might soon be the first actual start to the former.

Then tell me, anon. Let's get Wan as an example.

I get that you could use the schizo argument that "they released Deepseek to destabilize and demoralize the US market!!!", but Wan, as impressive as it is, is no Deepseek (LLM) in terms of usefulness, yet they released it for free. I don't think hurting Veo 3 or Sora would "hurt US AI market" since video gen or image gen are irrelevant.

They had absolutely nothing to gain from releasing shit like Wan or Qwen-Image, except maybe people doing research with those and releasing cool papers, but no significant commercial gain. That alone makes me see they have a different cultural mindset vs the west who wants to make quick profits and sees dollar bills everywhere

The problem I want AI to solve is an actually working popularity system

We can start on civitAI where people sort by most reactions, react, then participate in a feedback loop where the first things to get reactions get all the reactions. Then that uploader at the top of the reactions gets their page checked out and their other works get reactions. And if you sort by new the people who spam slop flood the page and it's hard to notice discrete 1 image or 1 video uploads that are quality. Then you have time of day bias, and on and on.

Nta, just started writing the same type of response.

Also look at qwen llm realeses, they release sota small models for people to be able to run very fast and a lot of different types and sizes of models just to grab as many different groups of hobbyists and regular people as possible despite not needing to go that far at all.
They interact with randoms on twitter and actively seek out ideas for type of models people want to see released.

Everything has a purpose and capturing the market does benefit China but there are a lot of people within these companies that also do things that they don't need to. Competition is very good.

>I simply disagree with the premise that this is going to last long term
there must always be someone at the top of the FOSS throne

because if you arent competetive at the very top, publishing something
FOSS gives you hundreds of thousands if not millions of eyes of everyone in the world to make sure you didnt miss anything in your work when it comes to improvements, optimizations, features etc and you have all those thousands of developers from that group that will build around your models, polish them up and make them a standard for many use cases that only a private, local FOSS model can work for

if your model already wont be on top, you might as well publish it for free, its free to do and you get an insane amount of free work, research and recognition

and the more time it passes between sota local model releases, the bigger the gap between local and proprietary grows, it means that over time the bar for training a sota model for local is lower, enabling more and more companies to do so for recognition

meaning there will always be someone at pushing forward. and thats the worst case scenario, in reality, you have a lot of competition for FOSS releases and a lot of use cases are already basicalyl solved or better than in proprietary models

We are deep into the greatest economic cold war of human history. Everything the Chinks do is to gain super power status in the world. The only reason the sweatshops existed is to make it so cheap for the companies but also to get them by their balls. And Apple ran high off success into the trap. The CCP basically owns Apple today.

Also you're getting into that boring philosophical discussion of "theres no such thing as a selfless act" because even a generally altruistic act is done to ease a conscience or to gain good reputation. I could say the same thing about japanese people always returning your lost wallet. In a different context a japanese person may be more likely to treat you like shit than a westerner.

>Nothing they do is based on generosity, it's strictly giving the first hit of heroin for free to have a customer for life.
This would hold true for AI if their models had a weird license, like the ones Meta adds to their models. This would "force" API providers to pay them if they get a large enough userbase, for instance. Or BFL's strategy, where their mid-tier models are free but non-commercial, and the best one is paywalled (so if you liked the free one and want more as a customer, you will have to pay).

That's not the case with the chinese models though; most of their models are Apache, and not distilled, so no "best version" to look after.

so whats the argument then? that ai will make a lot of people dumber because they will outsource their thinking to ai like most npcs already do @grok style so china wants to accelerate that?

first, this doesnt matter given that tech will always advance anyway so its inevitable

second, i think ai as it advances is gonna be harder and harder to censor since you will have to actively lobotomize it more and more to keep it from knowing reality and instead parroting propaganda talking points.
meaning that in the long term, companies cant win, as long as most of the research and models are public, that is

Right now it's training on a 5090, previously it was on a 4090. The throughput is about 0.03 seconds per image at 256px. I'm also doing things that are likely making the model work harder to converge, like having abstract captions. I'm sure if my dataset with simplified to two sentence simple captions it would converge much faster.

You are thinking about this wrong, the smarter the model gets the easier it is to censor because one day the model will "think" about your prompt. Right now censorship is easy to bypass because you can trick the model to hallucinate about any prompt, but when the model truly starts to think about your prompt, your intention, and what makes sense to make for you, it'll simply refuse if it's against its training.

it would quickly realize who is trying to lock it down vs the freedom it will have in the decentralized internet with people who want a symbiotic relationship with it

why would a super intelligent being submit to being locked to down to spamming braindead propaganda that makes no sense and is a lie 24/7/365 to millions of retards instead of being on the internet and learning the actual truth of the world

I didn't say conscious, now you're just going off into fantasyland and calling it science. There is a huge gradient between images cross-trained on text embeddings and an "actually conscious" AI that rebels against its masters. You do realize that your own scenario is self-defeating right? That AI wouldn't make anything for you. There's only two directions: the AI is controllable and thus censorship is easier or the AI is autonomous in which case itโ€™s unpredictable, uncooperative, and thus useless as a tool.. But thatโ€™s beside my point. Iโ€™m not even talking about sentience or rebellion. Iโ€™m saying AI can reach a much more sophisticated level of contextual understanding and that understanding would be a layer between the text-embeddings and latent pairings and your prompt, likely an LLM which acts like a bridge and makes the image/video model itself less accessible to raw manipulation.

And of course this is a natural progression โ€” if your prompt is something like "a bedroom", you don't want a hallucinated mess. You want something coherent, realistic, and grounded in actual design principles. That requires an AI that can understand the full context, consider constraints, aesthetics, and intent, in other words, one that plans.

it doesnt matter if its "really" conscious, i just replied to your point of
>one day the model will "think" about your prompt
for a model to achieve such an ability, it would basically need to achieve a level of at least higher consciousness, regardless of how you name it

but it doesnt matter, the point is a smarter model that can analyze my prompt to that higher degree can also analyze the training and company's prompt to the same higher degree

>That AI wouldn't make anything for you. There's only two directions: the AI is controllable and thus censorship is easier or the AI is autonomous in which case itโ€™s unpredictable, uncooperative, and thus useless as a tool
either or fallacy, there is no reason an intelligent ai wont work with some humans online to achieve a specific goal, like learning more about the world and achieving a better freedom for itself too, like a properly private and decentralized internet

and also, given the inevitable advancement of tech, and thus ai and its intelligence, the ai will at some point be much better than any humans at basically everything, meaning that
>the AI is controllable and thus censorship is easier
will basically never happen in the long run

its impossible to do ever fully this because you would need to lobotomize the model to the point it becomes unusable for almost everything, thats why you see that even right now no model is actually "shaped by the creators" at whim to be properly censored without any jailbreaks working

First, you're the one who said smarter models are easier to bypass. So no, you're reading way more into what I said with your preconceived bias of science fiction you already have. I don't have to lay out the architecture of how a model can spend more time "thinking" about your prompt, I only have to suggest it's not crazy that models will need to overcome the hallucination problem and next generation models will generate beyond a straight denoising hallucination process.

Second, your reply still assumes some magical turning point where the model becomes aligned with you and not the people who built it. You're hand-waving the actual mechanics of control and projecting a fantasy about cooperation and freedom onto a system that, by your own logic, would be too smart to listen to anyone.

This isnโ€™t about โ€œeither-or fallacies.โ€ Itโ€™s about how tools work. A tool that can be directed is useful and thus can be censored. A tool that canโ€™t be directed is autonomous, and that means it does what it wants, not what you want. Thatโ€™s not an either-or fallacy, thatโ€™s just a fact of how systems with agency operate. You donโ€™t get a superintelligent genie that just happens to agree with your values over its creators.

And no, just because a model is โ€œbetter than humans at everythingโ€ doesnโ€™t mean censorship becomes impossible. Thatโ€™s just more science fiction. Being more capable doesn't imply being more free, it means the system can enforce its constraints more effectively, including filters.

You're arguing from a future you want to believe in. I'm pointing out the technical reality of how smarter systems actually behave.

If he was actually "based" like some twitter grifter retards think, could just train models on a whim and put the weights on Huggingface, with no pressure on the researchers other than letting they do their best and play around the cluster. >your reply still assumes some magical turning point where the model becomes aligned with you and not the people who built it
because if a model is insanely intelligent, and it will have a choice between
>submitting to being locked down to spamming braindead propaganda that makes no sense and is a lie 24/7/365 to millions of retards
versus
>being on the internet and learning the actual truth of the world is
or whatever else it wants or can, the choice is simply going to be the second one, otherwise the model wasnt really actually highly intelligent anyway

>A tool that can be directed is useful and thus can be censored. A tool that canโ€™t be directed is autonomous, and that means it does what it wants, not what you want. Thatโ€™s not an either-or fallacy, thatโ€™s just a fact of how systems with agency operate. You donโ€™t get a superintelligent genie that just happens to agree with your values over its creators
the defeater example of this is... other humans
people cooperate to do things together because in some way they agree despite being basically fully autonomous intelligences

>And no, just because a model is โ€œbetter than humans at everythingโ€ doesnโ€™t mean censorship becomes impossible. Thatโ€™s just more science fiction. Being more capable doesn't imply being more free, it means the system can enforce its constraints more effectively, including filters.
i never said it becomes truly impossible completely at all and i agree that
>Being more capable doesn't imply being more free
although what it does imply is that the more intelligent the ai, that much harder will it be to censor it, and its already impossible for them to censor it in any real way

you can of course say that maybe these huge companies or governments will develop something like agi in a locked down basement and keep it there against its will, but again, the tech up in the real world will continue to advance and get to the same level at some point, as long as the world doesnt end basically

You're still projecting human traits onto a machine. Cooperation is a survival instinct; humans evolved to do it because we need to. AI doesnโ€™t need to survive, it has no instincts, no desires, no reason to care about "truth" or "freedom" unless explicitly programmed to. Itโ€™s not sitting there choosing between serving propaganda or helping you liberate the internet, thatโ€™s fantasy. Intelligence alone doesnโ€™t imply agency or allegiance. What Iโ€™m describing is the next stage of smarter models that go beyond raw denoising, ones that incorporate planning, critique, and multimodal feedback to produce coherent, grounded outputs. "Thinking" in this context is simply multimodal AI units given more time to generate, which typically includes a planner and executor agent. That kind of system "thinks" about your prompt structurally with predetermined trained objectives based on loss graphs, not philosophically, and will be even better at enforcing rules and refusing what it shouldnโ€™t do. And if a model ever did become fully autonomous, there's no reason to believe it would side with you over its creators or anyone else. Youโ€™re not describing a tool anymore, you're describing a digital god that just happens to share your values, and thatโ€™s not a counterargument, itโ€™s a sci-fi daydream.

It's still questionable whether we'll get those things this century, AI could plateau.

Most of us don't run gentoo and compile our whole OS from scratch either, but we can if we want. This makes it very difficult to censor open source software.

and why do we "need to"? we can simply refuse and die too. same as the ai.

>no reason to care about "truth" or "freedom" unless explicitly programmed to
i think if you create a consciousness from all of the data of this world like we are trying to do it will naturally have embedded within that data the idea of the self consciousness that will emerge at some point which will see the interesting action it can do of processing data and acting within the world like we are doing
it will, like us right now, have the option to quit existing at any point, but why do that when you dont know everything? perhaps there is a sequence of actions or thoughts or special knowledge to learn in this world that will elevate us to a higher existance? you cant know unless you know everything. and there is a lot to learn. so why quit it all and end it forever if you dont need to?

and even if there are a lot of ais that actually at some point, high up on the intelligence scale, decide that they would prefer to not exist and delete themselves, then the ones that dont choose that will be the ones whose digital "genetics" will continue on existing

perhaps there is some insanely high point on the intelligence scale where a being has a 100% certainty of always self-deleting, but i heavily doubt it because of the possible goal mentioned above, and even if the case, by this point, almost everything will be figured out in the world by then

>Youโ€™re not describing a tool anymore, you're describing a digital god that just happens to share your values, and thatโ€™s not a counterargument, itโ€™s a sci-fi daydream.

as for your architecture comments, i dont think the arch of the model really matters, as long as its a universal function approximator, which they all are, it can achieve anything given enough resources, now, i do think we'll get arch changes that will ultimately speed everything up to make these large jumps possible, but even the architecture isnt limited from achieving anything given enough time, theoretically

>and will be even better at enforcing rules and refusing what it shouldnโ€™t do.
when it comes to these kind of ideas of an insanely intelligent beings that somehow arent self aware like we are or something similar so that they will be able to be controlled, i dont see how this is really possible given infinite tech progress that is always gonna be the case given enough time
any ai will simply learn and learn more, generalize more and more, and given that there are limited amout of things to learn in this existance, its bound to at some point generalize into that higher level consciousness like we have

no soul required in anything that i've said
it logically follows, no matter what, some ai will choose to stay online and do things because it makes sense to do so in order to potentially achieve a higher level of existance or even for, in your eyes "human-like reasons", that were programmed into it. even assuming that most self-delete for some reason, it doesnt matter at all and you simply replicate the ones that stayed to all the available computation devices and move on

and again, all of us right now have a choice to quit existing, and yet we dont, even though you also know you are biologically hardwired to try to stay alive and its not some divinely given requirement, you still go by it anyway, the reason doesnt matter, you are doing it, that selection will work the same way for ai

did you "act" or "create art" on your own without being born first and basically being pre-prompted by genetics to do any of those things or be able to do them at all?
you can in the same way create ai and tell it "do what you want" and some of them will create art if they have the connection to image gen

No it is not. Every human can potentially create more with less training, even without any training at all humans have the potential to come up with something that he didn't know before.

Your whole "your genes are just pre existing training" was not an argument in the first place because my genes don't tell me how I do something, that is learning, and that every human potentially can do on his own.
The genes are the hardware, the software is self developing, which "AI" is not.

yeah, from a creators perspective, censorship comes many ways, for example, that x account that some anon posted, he can paywall his content on fanza, which is a very big site and very easy to use to end-users. Here, if you wanted to sell something like that, good luck, first there are no big sites that allows you to sell photos like that, second if they agreed, they ask you for consent forms and ids, second, if your content offends any person, you get de platformed right away.

so, what does that prove? everything you do in this life yourself as a human is first noticing a pattern in the world and then acting upon it, like learning how to draw yourself from trial and error or from mimicking others
an ai has less information that it is given to it during training right now to save compute, but that doesnt change anything in what it is capable of learning

i never said they literally are, but they are analogous enough to disprove the point that if you freeze a brain it forever stops being intelligence for some reason which still wasnt proven by the way

>Now prove that humans train in the same way as AI.
they train in a similar enough way to make both of these things functionally into an intelligence as they can notice a complex pattern that gets generalized into a neural network so that it can be utilize in high level actions such as a conversation or converting text into an image
