10/11 has the benefit of cumulative updates, unlike xp and vista (plus 7 and 8.x until late 2016)
>these updates have been going for over a fucking hour
no shit. SP3 XP was released back in 2008 - 5 years worth of QFEs until the final EoS (or 10 if you were piggybacking off POSReady 2009 updates.)
and with the way how the Windows Update stack works (the client/agent part, exactly) by querying the update metadata database (WSUSSCN2 - contains update metadata as early as W2K, including superseded) for any applicable updates, don't be surprised it takes that long, as it needs to scavenge through all that shit.
http://superuser.com/questions/890038/why-is-checking-windows-update-so-slow/935299#935299 - similarly for NT6 windows update

if you really cared then you would've had slipstreamed unofficial service pack 4 into the installation image.

well that's a good start, at least.
not sure where you got that from (gonna bet it's from that archive.org mirror - rip ryanvm), but there's also the Post-SP4 Update Pack & Rollup included in the files to download.

ideally, it should've been slipstreamed too like the unofficial SP4, but you can use the rollup to install onto a live system. then use legacy update to search for any remaining ones, as a sanity check.

It's just too bad no one has the balls to update the leaked source code and say fuck you to MS and then accidentally publish the updated code.

Can it even be built from the source, tho?
IIRC it requires lot of Microsoft's internal tools that weren't included in the leaks.

I built xp sku with server2k3 branch when it leaked. You have to update the certs and shit the ones goin round back then expired in 2020. Ive been on loonix for 20+ years so it was just a bit of fun really.
The rentry guide should still be around if you can find the s2k3 branch. I think the russians have been playing around with it.

Not worth the effort. I understand people want drivers for modern hardware on an unsupported OS, but it's easier to put what we already have on a VM and call it a day.
