Found a macbook at a flea market. Any guesses on the password? I've tried typing it out. Ex: 4one, password4one, for one. Not sure if I can afford another user without it. Any other suggestions help.

Tried that and it didn't work. Read somewhere that the first models don't have a recovery mode. Not sure if that's true but the command doesn't work

I've dealt with this before

1. Boot into single user mode (press Command-S at power on)
2. Type fsck -fy
3. Type mount -uw /
4. Type launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
5. Type passwd (user's name)
6.Reboot

I've even reset PowerPC macs. As long as you can get into single user mode (hold Cmd + s while starting up), you can reset the password.

This doesn't work on modern macs due to Firevault protection but on a mac from 2006, it should work for sure.
