Whenever I try to upload a picture i get this 4-5 sec delay before I can actually choose the picture in my folder. Anybody else notice this? It happens on Brave and Chrome. The thing is, sometimes, very rare instances, it doesn't happen and you can choose the file instantly.. What is the solution? I'm sure it's caused by the browser or is some Windows Defender shit?

Update your Windows. One of the Window Update did a fix for slow Explorer. I can't remember if it's beta channel, normie channel, or LTSC

Yeah I'm not doing that. The thing is sometimes it's not like that at all, but as soon I restart the computer it starts again. Seems like the delay is on purpose, possibly scanning for something beforehand, and sometimes it gets disabled so everything runs smooth again.

Is this meant to imply that it doesn't happen on Firefox? You might want to give it a try since it isn't chromium based. Still, my bet is that it's a Windows issue rather than a browser one, like the others said.

Also, if your picture folder is on an HDD rather than an SSD, that could easily explain the delay, just to get the obvious out of the way.

Windows is indexing the files to speed up searches. the rare time it doesnt happen is because the index has just happened.
turn it off but that will make searches slower.

You probably have them sorted by date. Rookie mistake. In the file picker go up one level, right click your picture folder, properties, set optimize for general items, then enter your folder and sort by date modified.
