Why is cloud storage so ridiculously expensive? It’s like $200 a month for 8tib of azure cloud storage. I could buy and setup 2 different NAS with like 64tb each for the price of 1 year of storage. Why isn’t there any cheap cloud storage?

Why don't you do this? The price is reflective of the convinience.

They are, because they know the majority of people will not take the time to setup their own.
If you are moving to shitty internet, wouldn't any cloud service also suffer from this?

Because that storage is mainly used for ERP system and other SaaS faggotry, not for storing your gay porn.

My download will suffer sure, but when I’m traveling I’ll be able to access it at least from places with better download, instead of never being able to access its non-existent upload

>>106178539
Ok then where should I be hosting my gay porn streaming in the cloud?

I didn't even think of this, apologies. I don't get out much. Like >>106178539 mentioned, perhaps you are looking in the wrong place for what you need.

The type of cloud storage you're looking at is hot-storage designed for web servers and high volume applications. Look at cooler storage designed for consumers, not AWS/Azure stuff.

As long as it isn't cp, you can upload it to Matrix for free. Can only do files less than 100mbs though.

I need to be able to attach compute power to my storage though for transcoding and web app hosting, is there anything like that? I just feel like there’s no option that isn’t like $4-5x as expensive as running it myself, but that’s not an option

Doesn’t seem to be what I’m looking for, a replacement for my home Jellyfin and cloud server

Best you can do for something like that is a VPS with some attached storage (either bucket-style or an attached volume). You won't ever get a lot of storage for a little money, but you could get 250GB-500GB for like $5-10 a month and then use it as temporary hosting. Keep your big archive on your home NAS and then just have recent stuff on your cloud setup, then remove it once watched.

You're not just paying for the hardware and the electricity cost and the bandwidth, and the labor/maintenance cost. You're also paying for the shareholders to get a cut. The shareholders, who did nothing but buy a share from a guy who bought a share from a guy who bought a share, need to be compensated in perpetuity. It's a loan that never gets paid off.

The share holder manages the company though, they make important decisions to hand down to the management. I think they deserve a cut more than whatever fucking pricing analyst decided this was a good deal.

Bananon, remember this whenever you buy ANYTHING. Most things are extremely overpriced, if you think you can DIY for less you likely can. I'm not saying always DIY, but know the value of what you're buying.

Can buy two good external hard drive for that amount. Last longer than a month. Two drives for even-odd backup.
Really, cloud storage is, and always has been, complete bullshit a complete rip-off. You're stupid for using it.

Ok well then how do I tap into this racket. I will buy a UPS, some hard drives, and a cheap computer, and sell you 8TB for the low cost of $100 a month.
